Anyone Write Poems?

Unread postby Toddo » 13 May 2018, 10:29

A lot of the time in High School and sometimes even now the way I vent is through poetry. Does Anyone else write poems? If so I would love to read some if your willing to post one =]

Here is a Poem I wrote a couple years ago after becoming fed up with the people around me at the time, its nothing too fancy just simple rhyming =]

Why must there be so much hate?
We all have the same fate.
Straight, Gay, Black, White
It shouldn't matter but we all still fight.
Muslim, Buddhism, Atheist, Christian
Who cares we all have our own ambition.

Why must there be so much hate?
Peace, wouldn't it be great?
Not having any trouble
Turning the news on and not seeing rubble.
Everyone getting along
Am I really wrong?

Do I really believe it can change?
No and no one thinks that's strange.
Maybe its too much to ask,
A world that's not up to the task.
I'm a Fricking Delight =]

I keep a collection of poems I wrote in middle school (40 years ago). They are not great poetry by any measure, but an insight to the young man I was becoming. I still enjoy memorizing poems that move me -- some profound, and some ridiculous.

To keep them for so long its pretty cool = ] Poetry doesnt have to be great as long as it means something to you :)

Thought Id share another one. This one is about a friend, who struggled with drugs. He is currently clean and has been for the last year but at the time I didn't think he was going to snap it but I'm very happy and relieved he did. Wrote this in 2013.

A perfect summers day is what he said
Not knowing what happened as he bled.
A boys heart full of hope
Next thing you know hes doing dope.

What happened to a perfect summers day?
Now hes in a corner wasting away.
Wanting to get his life back on track
But thinking, one more hit of this crack.

The Addiction is too much
He cant eat his lunch.
Again and again one more time
He doesnt care if its a crime.

As long as he gets his fix
He doesnt care if its mixed.
Never able to stop
Even if it was down to the last drop.

A perfect summers day is what he said
Now he is lying on the floor as good as dead.

I love poetry, well, some. Some of it I'm not so into. I used to write alot in my angsty teenage years, because, you know, i was an angsty teenager. So you can guess at the quality!

And just to prove it. One of the ones I still have (kept in an old shoe box in the wardrobe!)

Fear, a dancing puppet plaything, I.
I dance, a skittle, a jig, smug.
A dance with all my passion high.
Chill, solo, dark grave, dug.

Awful innit! Told ya, i was very angsty and overly fond of comma's, that bit hasn't changed. :D

EDIT: and another one I wrote, when I was 13 I think, more catchy I think.

Drip, Drip, Drip.
Cum on my lip,
Something tastes nice and fresh!
Nice big bum,
covered in cum.
Let me lick your flesh!
:D

Yeah, kinda creepy now I think about it, but it tickled me as a kid. What? Not sophisticated enough for yah? Philistines!

Loved both of them. The first one was really cool made me think a bit. The last one was fun, had me chuckling:)

When I was in secondary school, I remember an English class where we were given various themes and told to write a poem for them. And I wrote one, and the teacher came behind me and read mine. And she said it was really good. And then she told the entire class to stop what they were doing and made them all turn to face me and read them my poem. And then told them all to applaud me.

She took no interest in my acute embarrassment or the subsequent school yard retribution that awaited me.

Mrs Doherty taught me that poetry is a trap, designed to trick you into identifying that you have feelings.

I have genuinely not given poetry any consideration since because of that mortifyingly PTSD-inducing experience.

I do since I was like 9 or so, though most are in German. I had some dozen published in anthologies or so, so it's not something to boast about.

I tried some in English, too, but I'm not certain at all to whether I misused the English language or not. It's not something easy to do, if one's not a native speaker, I guess.

So there's an old one from my twenties:

Dream vs. real life

What is a dream's worth?
if you compare to the real thing,
if you are to miss out on everything,
if there was no place to dream tonight?

What's a dream's reward?
if there's no simple touch,
if it doesn't last all the much,
if there's no gentle whisper in the morning?

What's a dream's meaning?
if you can't take it out along,
if you can't wake to life that song
if there's no chance to make it ever happen?

What does a dream matter?
if soon a thing you won't remember,
if you can't keep control of September,
if there was no way to hold on to it?

What's so special about a dream?
if you're dreaming while asleep till May,
--even if your dream comes back every day.....
What's a dream worth dreaming?

....if there's nothing else you've got?
If ya want to hang with me, let's go windsurfing!

This Poem is about reminiscing when you were young. I sadly forgot to date this one so I don't remember when I wrote it.

Remember when you didn't have any worries
Some movies were a bit too gory.

Having fun in the sandbox
Playing with your blocks.

Always knowing you had a home
Mom brushing you hair with a comb.

Watching cartoons until you fell asleep
Parents telling you to just count sheep.

Writing notes to boys/girls at school
Man weren't we a tool.

Drinking milk at lunch
Never having a hunch.

I miss my younger self
Seeing all the pictures on my shelf.

Growing up fast is something no one should want to do
Enjoy being young because life gets blue.
