Big Gay Survey!

Unread postby Brenden » 2 March 2021, 17:26

Click here to take part in a large and interesting survey of gay, bisexual and same-sex attracted men!

I'm collecting data to analyse as part of my studies of statistics and data science. I wanted to collect data that was interesting and relevant to me, so I chose this topic and kept thinking of more and more interesting questions to ask until it became like an omnibus.

Some of these are hard to give one solid single answer to... but then I've always been a pedantic bitch.

I have experienced domestic violence, but not as the perpetrator or victim. I answered “no” but this question is vaguely worded. And I declined to tell you how much I earn, I’m a gentleman. A gentleman doesn’t speak of such uncouth things. And how dare you ask me how many people I’ve slept with, you slut-shamer.

No, I've posted it to r/SampleSize and I've requested to post it to several other relevant subreddits. I'm also going to think of other ways to spread it.

If you'd like to share it, please do!

Uni lgbt societies, perhaps, could contact their officers. Your hiking group?

Done! A few suggestions to keep in mind for next surveys (and please do make them, the quality is fantastic and I love doing these):

1) Do you use condoms?
This question should be clearer, probably with an addition of "currently" or "when you're single." Not using condoms in a monogamous relationship is very different than while dating around, so this could be two questions or a more specific one.

2) "Other" or "Explain" field
Some questions deserved more clarification. I know that's bad for making graphs but it would be interesting to see results about what STDs are more prevalent or why the responder prefers certain behaviors.

3) Insertive/receptive
This might be me being dumb or ESL, but I wasn't sure if I was answering these right. I know it should be obvious, and I probably got it right, but it would be better if you clarified the point of view or used different terms. It might be just an issue with me, though, I'm often confused about these things, like when someone says "in 7 days" and my mind keeps trying to figure out if the current one counts or not.

I guess that's it. Loved being part of it, can't wait for the conclusions.

EDIT:
It would be interesting to see some other areas of interests too, such as religion, sports. I'm always curious about what the average might be on those fronts. Here in Brazil, there are so many Christian gay guys, and I'm always wondering how they make it work.

This was interesting, but I thought the questions would be much more personal. I mean, some of them were obviously, but, some of them I thought was going to give you a scenario or something and ask you how you'd react or whatever. Good survey though.
Here's an example of the Universe trying to tell you that you need healing in an area of your life:

Someone who struggles with showing emotion. This person, in their lifetime, will constantly struggle with this, and that is because, they choose to ignore or disregard the fact that they have trouble showing emotion. Most people will ignore this issue, and will continue to fracture themselves. And this goes with pretty much any problem that happens in your life that is recurring. Don't pass up an opportunity to make you "whole" again.

You’d max out the character limit ;)

LOL! Well hell, it's bad enough that the character limit for the signature is 2,045, and I couldn't even max that out without people getting upset. But, it's ok, I understand. If people wanted to read a book they'd go to a bookstore or buy an ebook.

You wanna know something funny? Before I type anything or write a book, I literally have every single detail, down to the last word mapped out in my head. Literally my head can come up with a whole book in less than a day, that's literally how fast I think. It's nuts....lol.

Could you guys give me an estimate of how long the survey took you? I estimate about 10 minutes, but if it's even less than I can reduce my time setting on a certain website I'm using and potentially get more responses. (It took me 5 minutes, but I also already knew all the questions.)

Thanks! I've taken lots of surveys and kind of developed a methodology and best practices, both for ease of taking and also for ensuring data integrity and processabiity.

Thanks for the suggestions! I might make a version 2 at some point.

Took me probably 7 minutes maybe...

About two hours. I started it on the train into work and then I went underground and couldn’t submit it until I surfaced again. But I forgot for a while and only noticed when I went to check something else and found the page open.

It took the same time as the time it takes to smoke one rollie, short paper, medium thick, using slightly moist tobacco, and it being cold enough outside that I made it a quick one. That is, about eight minutes.

Which is what I'd say if I still smoked. Which I don't. Never. No sir.

It seemed like it took me less than 10 minutes to fill out the survey. I wasn’t really paying attention to the time.

I spent a few hours afterward feeling insecure about myself. But honestly, I was kind of phoning it in. I can do way better than that, but I had other tasks to do last night.
