You could just log out, or change your password to something you easily forget.

I do have to ask, why do you not put a space after your periods? I've seen a few people do that but when I ask they get weirdly defensive.

Same with double spaces , like this . People get really angry if you question it and I'll never understand why.

I’ve never seen that in the wild!

I know a lot of older people who put double spaces after end-sentence punctuation. Like this. But that at least makes some sense, since it more clearly defines the sentences.

Edit: I see the forum software overrides consecutive double spaces, haha!

Lol yeah, same. Brazilians do the double space thing a lot.

From personal experience, when I was a kid Word kept complaining about me not using a space after punctuation, and what I understood was that I needed to use a space before it, because then it didn't complain. For a while I thought that was correct until I understood that I was supposed to be doing the opposite. I imagine that's how people end up adding spaces everywhere.

At least for French it's correct for questions, exclamation marks and colons, but I don't forgive it if I see it in any other language.

When I learned (or not) to type in the 1970s - on an IBM Selectric no less - we were penalized for NOT having two spaces after end-of-sentence punctuation, so it was absolutely required in business writing and probably most other formal settings into the 80s.

As everything transitioned to computers - and remember there was a time when storage was expensive - then people started to notice things like double spaces and periods/fullstops after abbreviations. All those "extra" spaces and periods cost money and when looking at an organization like IBM or GM or AT&T it became an issue. So there was a slow transition.

Never really looked at any of the style guides though - be curious if/when they changed.

The thing some folks forget is that language isn't set in stone, it's always changing to meet the needs of its users. I know, we try hard just to learn the rules, it's annoying to see them discarded willy-nilly, but that's a bit different issue.

What I find very irritating is when people put a disembodied grave accent mark in place of a single apostrophe.

I just don’t understand how they can look at the result and not realise that it doesn’t look right and they’re hitting the wrong key.
