Well I've heard this from scientists like Ogi Ogas and Christopher Ryan. I'm going to try to get to the bottom of this. (No bottom jokes  ).

I think being gay is mostly biology, for homosexuality is something that has shown to run in families.

I for one strongly believe that it is a combined effect of both genetic factors and environmental. Of course I think it is predominantly genetics (maybe 70%) but the rest is environmental, things such as friendship groups, hobbies etc all have an effect due to the type of people you are exposed to and look up to.

When I started masturbation and whatever age I clearly remember I used to watch straight porn and lesbian porn for at least a year. For some reason, I got a bit cock obsessed, maybe it was a comparison of the huge things on my screen and looking down at my young self? Who knows. But as I started to look at them more, I think my brain started associating that kinda stimulation visually with my stimulation down there. And then slowly but surely I transferred to gay porn. But that process did take a good few months. When I look back now, do I wish I never started to look at the cocks? Yes, I can say hand on heart I wish I kept with what I was doing, but I am so far gone through the process I don't find women attractive in a sexual way.

Well I didn't tell my dad when I was 5 that I wanted to marry a prince charming because I was listening to too much Celine Dion and wore pink as a toddler.

It is an interesting suggestion that variations in pornographic material could affect sexual attraction however, there is not much (if any) literature to support this view. If you look at studies on 'gay cures' one of the most common forms of these 'treatments' was to establish a negative physical reaction (vomiting) with images of gay porn or attractive men. Given that these cures have never provided any actual evidence of changing sexual attraction (through the use of attention and sexual arousal tests) it is unlikely that this would have been the case for you.
More likely is the scenario where your sexuality was already leaning to the homosexual side of the spectrum and you were reacting to the male participants in pornographic materials, leading you to be curious about full-blown (joke intended) gay porn.
A key difference in these approaches is the ability to blame your actions for the outcome; I would suggest that being gay is neither something to hate or something to hate yourself for 'causing'.
(Insert over dramatic sentence below)
The key to loving anything, gay or straight, is to love yourself :)

Yeah maybe you are right... But I wouldn't say I hate myself for it. I just find men hard work (hence forever single at the moment).
Yeah but with the gay cures working that way, there was already an established sexual orientation, I do think at a younger age where you are easily impressionable.

It's interesting to look at identical male twins where only one of them is gay. To me this indicates that there must be some sort of environmental factor, although I still believe that genetics plays a big part in it. How else did my dad manage to father two sons who both turned out to be gay?

P.S. I do understand that my last sentence doesn't prove my preceding statement. I'm merely providing it as evidence towards my hypothesis.

In my opinion there are two kinds of Gays. Some who are born Gay and some who try it and then decide they prefer men. Julian Clary for example tried it and decided he preferred men, but some men simply cannot have sex with women, they are turned off and absolutly cannot do it and they know from quite a young age that they are attracted to men and not women and so they never have sex with any woman and remain virgins in that sense.
They say that Angels are impervious to temptation, in that they are not tempted by women at all, and the Gay men who absolutly do not want women, are similar in nature, in that they are not tempted at all by the female body. They are turned off by the female body and not turned on.
As to what makes men Gay, that is debatable.
It is the same as what makes some men violent, what makes some men dislike cabbage, and what makes some men kind to animals and some men cruel to them. It is something inherent in the man's nature. And in my opinion it is good and not bad. In my opinion it is those who succumb to temptation who are wrong and I beleive that Gays walk the Moral High Ground. I am sure that succumbing to temptation is wrong and not right.

Hi there, very interseting question...And just to give another useful point of view, bisexuality has not yet seriously been studied, and in my opinion, there are many things to understand by digging there...
I mean, I have always had a straight sexuality, till I start feeling attracted by some men a few month ago, so I don't think homosexuality is something that is "pre-written" in your genetic code, or whatever; Its mostly the evolution of your life through the world, people you like, events you meet, that make you become what you are today (and I think it's true in any domains of life, not only for sexual orientation).

its difficult to know the answer to this question. The majority of people discover their gay sexual preferences at some point later in life. Our World continues to be homophobic thus not educating people that they have a choice to make regardless if they are born that way or not. So as it stands right now it's probably a mix of genetics and environmental factors. Does it really matter though?? Haters area always going to hate..

I used to have fantasies involving women up to the age of 12, when a switch in my mind flipped and I could not go back. Perhaps it does not manifest until puberty, though I've heard of those who were sure well before that.

... Freud's theory and on my own experience. I'll say more about it. I think that "clear gender" is just a mith - i mean that there are no clear constant gender models.
Notions of "Male" and" Female" do not exist in human nature in constantly mode-
you can see in everyday life (if you live in civilized Country) how is contradictory a human behavior( i don't mean the specific environment=)
Human can be more manly than feminine, or reverse, but there is no constant clear condition. Ideology wants to clone clear gender models- but nature in itself has no ideology - bisexuality inherent to human nature- as Freud considered. I agree with Freud in this question and with Weininger and eventually with human nature

Based on Freud? That's like basing your beliefs on your favorite novelist. No one buys his ideas because they suit the greater body of scientific knowledge and research.

i disagree with you. It often looks like an intellectual pose when someone criticize Freud's without sufficient knowledge about his works. It is not about you it's about modish tendence
But i must admit that he has methodical flaws. And some facts about him, and his own confessions, giv the way for the scepticism. But most of his ideas is a very important and actual.
Can you show me scientific reason of your scepticism about Freud's doctrine
