Unread postby NvM » 12 August 2019, 03:19

this was my morning New York Times read this sunday morning.;
link:
https://www.nytimes.com/2018/02/17/us/m ... erers.html

the article initially starts off saying most of the mass murders are men. likely a top level call. seems true?
than the article deviates into a few belief systems and ob sevations

just interesting read

It's a rather silly observation. What is the point, to denigrate men?

Most warriors are men. Most Nobel Prize winners are men. Males and females are very different. That's why I'm gay.

The observation is not silly — it is true: most mass shooters are men. The headline, however, is beyond silly. It is an error of English grammar.

The point, I imagine, is that if we as a society want to do something about mass shootings, there is no need to waste our time trying to prevent women from committing these crimes. There are at least two indisputable factors common to almost all mass shootings in the USA — the perpetrators are male, and have easy access to powerful guns.

If we have the will and the balls to do anything about this continuing tragedy, we need to address both — the emotional / social isolation of many men in our culture, and the easy access to assault weapons. I think it is ridiculous to argue otherwise.

The point here is that there are many differences between males and females and their social behaviors. Of course most mass shooters will be men. And most Nobel Prize winners will be men as well. We are a more aggressive and dynamic sex. That can be seen to have both positive and negative results.

But if the author is trying to say that mass shooters are a reflection on all males, that is silly. So far in 2019 there have been 248 mass shootings in the U.S.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_m ... es_in_2019

There are over 100 million adult males in the U.S. 100 million to 248. The ratio is infinitesimal. So mass shooting is not inherent to maleness, even if it is a mostly male phenomenon.

I agree with you, jimbo. (I can't access the NYT article, so I haven't read it.) I agree that mass shooting is not inherent to maleness.

However, maleness is inherent to mass shooters.

cant access the NYT article
it is a worthy read. They let the plebes in like me if i use a none private window.

so husband and I went to the ballet downtown:
Once inside, if you stepped out side for intermission they would not let you back in. Opera house staff was patrolling the parameter of the building with armed guards and dogs. There was an armed transit guard on the train home. Its a junk democracy if you have to sleep with a hand gun under the pillow.

the gun ownership has has only raised the bar for more bad to happen if things go side ways.

I would seriously like to know what is idiotic about understanding males and females are very different and appreciating that difference?

To me male homosexuality is a celebration of masculinity. In some respects it's modern day phallicism.

That's not what those two gay clones are referring to.

I said males and females are different and I love the difference. I love masculinity.

Why do the tittering clones find that offensive?

well the warrior thingy was odd, just saying in a topic titled "Mass Shooters..."
so you got figure some down talk?
just thinking its what you wanted :awesome:

this takes the post sideways but must be said:
masculinity always has included:
-being successful, compassionate and the smartest in the room
-still we were all female for a short time.

it is a failure if a life fits neatly into a stereotype.

Look at the stats. There have been 250 or so mass shooters this year, almost all of them male. 250 out of 150 million American males is not indicative of male behavior.

Yes males are aggressive. This is my point about warriors. We're the ones who fight the battles. There are some things worth fighting for. It was men who were in the trenches against Nazi Germany. And yes, there have been millions of gay men who were warriors.
