Neighbourhood Gaydar..Patrol

Unread postby Koftruecross » 5 February 2019, 17:33

I live in a sleepy little village that sits on the shores of a lake, forest and camp grounds. I own a three bedroom house and a workshop building there. I'm not the only LGBT type person to ever live here. My neighbour Scott is gay. He is the commandant of a prison diversion camp for young offenders between the ages of 18 and 25 years old. My other neighbour Sue is a lesbian. She works on the maintenance crew at university. Sue and I love living here because it's quiet and beautiful. Scott hates it here. He pines for the big city.
The only trouble any of us have ever had living here was 27 years ago when all of our names were written on a letter distributed by a gang calling themselves CATSCH. It was supposed to be an inept attempt as an acronym for STOP THE SPREAD OF HOMOSEXUALITY. It was distributed by a Christian hate group. They claimed Scott was trying to appear straight because he had a lesbian roommate. They were not at all sure about me so they added a question mark after my name. This letter wasn't supposed to fall into our hands. But it did and Scott gave the sheriff a copy of it just in case these Christians harmed us in any way. Nothing happened and it seemed to die on its own volition.

Lol. I'm on my medication now. The letter that was distributed said my town is a Godly Christian town and everyone on the list is an undesirable reprobate. Scott defiantly hung out his rainbow flag in response.
I live quite near a university town and it seems to attract the strange, odd or Ripley's believe it or not. College towns and the area surrounding them are diverse.
It was a complete SURPRISE to all of us that the pastor of the Baptist Church in town denounced the letter. He said the hateful Christians belonged in the looney bin. It just goes to show when you think you know someone they turn around and completely surprise you and do the exact opposite of what you expected.

From here the story does take a rather strange turn. When my lesbian friend first came to the neighbourhood she looked at a tiny Victorian cottage to rent. The cottage was only a mere 70 feet from the front door of the Pentacostal Church. It was located directly in front of the church. It was owned by an old man named Donald..
Donald had a long running feud against the pastor. The pastor wanted to buy the cottage from Donald but he flat out refused to sell it to him. AND THEN Donald rented the cottage to my lesbian friend. And that drove the pastor and his flock to a complete and utter state of RAGE against Donald. They cursed him to hell and back. They HATED the fact that a lesbian woman was living so close to the front door of their church. AND THEN Donald told the heirs of his estate , that after he died and they inherited the cottage IN THE EVENT that they should ever sell the cottage to the church he would come back from the grave and haunt them and cause them misery.
Donald died and the heirs immediately sold the cottage to the church AGAINST Donald's wishes. I wish I was acquainted with the heirs. I'm curious to know if the ghost of Donald did in fact rise from the grave to cause them grief. Alas that is something I will never know.
At least my lesbian friend had bought a house in town and moved down the street...BEFORE Donald died. If she had stayed in the cottage the church would have surely tried to evict her. ..If they were unsuccessful at that they would have tried to make her life miserable there. The church rased the cottage to the ground because they said it had been defiled.

Travel while you are still young.

Unread postby Koftruecross » 5 February 2019, 23:59

I live in a graying area where there are not many opportunities for the young. I tell everyone between the ages of 20 and thirty:
If you want to travel go NOW while you are still young... I myself went to Texas when I was young with only $300 dollars in my pocket and it was the best experience of my life. When I was in Europe I encountered groups of young American, French and German kids that back packed together clear across Europe with barely any money. They were hanging out at every train station. I know it's not for every young person. But for a lot of us it was. It's a difficult thing to do if youn worry about how much money you have. You just have to let yourself go. I even encouraged Corey to go. Although he didn't need much encouragement. If you are young and you have the wander lust obey it. You can always go back home.

You could write a memoir/fiction and I'll be the first one to buy your book.

This. But the pastor is mad because a lesbian lived in front of the church?

It was the BAPTIST pastor that denounced the letter. It was the PENTECOSTAL pastor that was angry about having a lesbian live so close to the church. There is a church on nearly every corner in this small town. The others are the APOSTOLICS, METHODISTS, PRESBYTERIAN and THE CHURCH OF THE LIVING WATER. I have never.. lived in such a small town that had so many churches.

I never really understand those Christian factions but BAPTIST is not homophobic and PENTECOSTAL is? Got it.

I know this is complex. I dont understand these people myself sometimes. The Baptist preacher preaches against being gay in his church..
HOWEVER when it comes to hate groups he does NOT condone them at all. Especially when it comes to running people out of town.
I tried to stay on good terms with all my neighbors including the Baptist preacher. My neighbour Scott on the other hand did everything he could to piss off the Baptists and other Christian denomiations.

The Baptists are obsessed with the rite of Baptism. Just like the Catholics are obsessed with the wine and bread. The Apostolics are obsessed with speaking in tongues and their women are forbidden to cut their hair short and must wear long dresses. The Presbyterians are Calvinists who have a rather dour and cynical doctrine that says the vast majority of people are pre destined to go to hell. The Church of the Living Water is charismatic which is sort of a Feel Good type of religion. The Pentecostals are all Hell Fire and brimstone. They and the Apostolics are obsessed with the letters of St. Paul. Especially the letter to the Romans. ...St. Paul was far more intolerant of sinners than Jesus Christ ever was.
Then there are the Dooms Day churches that are obsessed with the Book of Revelation. That is the Apocalypse. End times that is. They have always seemed to attract young people. They have one church where the pastor is a 16 year old boy named Tommy. They have completely gone off the rails. They have lost touch with reality.
