Sorry to read about, quite scary, too!
Happen to know one young kitesurfer guy who had something similar 8 years back, age 22, he was with the military, boarding crew. He fully recovered, but he took all them years.

I think René was very lucky to have you and to notice the condition right away. Every minute passing would count. I hope they can scan the precise spot where the event took place to avoid rebleeding chances in case of some wee vessel malformation that often may be be a possible cause. ( Clipping the aneurysm, initiate coiling, that like )

He seems to take it all in a sober mindset and I would guess him to be precisely aware of how to best cope with the condition. Hope, he's got the best available doctor material there is, and I wish all the best to him for the recovery.

When my Momma had her stroke, she would talk slurry for an ongoing time, still some bit after receiving speech therapy. Well, she was like 67 when it happened. It didn't at all impair her intellectual ability, it was limited to motor of the left limbs, left eyesight and some facial muscles, so this usually may cause the slurry talking.
I strongly believe that one can get one's brain to find ways around the area of damage, and neuronal connections can be sort of relocated and transferred over time and practice. Other connections will take over and people recover, even to a near 100% at times.
If ya want to hang with me, let's go windsurfing!

I'm glad that he's getting better and the aneurysm scare has been cleared. Sudden illnesses can be so scary.

I hope they can give an idea of what medicines not to use in combination in the future.

He’s doing very well. He can raise both limbs high, squeeze his nurse’s hand tightly (surprising her), and he’s been moved from the high-dependency unit to what seems to be a observation unit, pending transfer to a recovery unit at our small local hospital.

That’s good. :keke: Were you able to talk to him today? Can he communicate how he feels?

Yes, his communication is very good. He’s articulate as ever, arguing with the nurses around drinking water vs milk and such, correcting my pronunciation of pharmaceutical names, the usual René stuff.

He was even arguing about drugs with the anaesthesiologist the other day while his speech was physically slurred due to left-side weakness and a floppy tongue (which is almost all cleared up now — though he still can’t swallow, failing the nurse’s water test, which is a big source of frustration for him because it means no drinking or proper eating, just nutrient drip through a feeding tube).

He passed the water-drinking test this morning and his feeding tube was removed, so he had proper breakfast and just had lunch. Plus, he could stand and walk to the toilet, so they removed the catheter. No more hoses or tubes or wires or anything!

Unfortunately it sounds like he’ll be stuck at this hospital until late in the week, as there are still no beds available at our local hospital.

Today he was a little weaker in his left side than yesterday, but he also got less sleep today and they gave him opiates early on.

He’s got his laptop now so he may be on the forum again soon! He’s doing typing exercises to regain his muscle memory for typing on a keyboard.

Tell him he needs to fight and get through this if he's ever going to finally leave you and come to New Mexico to be with me.

Whether he leaves me or not, he’s never leaving Scotland after this! You’ll have to move here.

Such a shame taxes are done so easily and smoothly here; really dampens the demand for personal accountants!

Spoke with the neurologist today and he’s very not-concerned with René’s current condition and happy with his fast recovery. Not much chance of a spontaneous reoccurrence.
