Should I move just because I don't like the local gay scene?

Should I move just because I don't like the local gay scene?

Hello! I am a middle-aged gay Latino living in Boston, Massachusetts, for nine years. The mainstream gay scene here is very cliquey, and it has been challenging to make meaningful connections in this area. There are subcultures within the mainstream, like leather or bears, and they are friendlier but still cliquey in terms that I have to look like the prototype of a bear or leatherman to be accepted. Since 2015 I have been engaged in volunteer advocacy for affordable housing, and the connections have been extraordinary in that setting. However, I feel the gay scene is excluding.

There have been gay bar closures without replacement in these nine years of living in Boston, both mainstream and leather. I feel a sense of mourning in the community because of that. People complain that the local gay scene is not as fun and vibrant as it used to be before. I feel the difference too. However, at this point, after making so much unsuccessful effort to “click,” I care less if more venues close if the scene is so cliquey.

I work from home. My lease will expire on November 30, 2021. I am thinking of moving to a friendlier place; I still don’t know if it will be in the Northeast or Midwest. California is another place that comes to my mind, but it would cost too much. Moving or not is a tough decision because the gay scene evolves in many cities. Should I move just because I am dissatisfied with the local gay scene? I need feedback.

I think you can change the question like this, why would you want to stay ?

If you don't find anything, I think it's a pretty obvious choice. I think it's always good to move, you can meet new people, change your way of life, have a better home.

But you need to be careful, because it can go worse too.

If you are not feeling well at your current place, moving will also bring fresh air to help you feeling better.

I think the question of why would I want to stay, as you present it, answers all. I have no reasons to stay.
