Thinking about getting a tattoo

Unread postby mxguy01 » 7 April 2018, 02:29

Thinking of getting a small tattoo. This is weird because I've always considered them a bit of a dis-figuration of the body, at least for myself. Then there is always my fear of needles and dislike of pain.

I'd sort of like to have my ava as a tattoo. Maybe right on one of the butt cheeks, just under the waste line where the boxer briefs sit. Or perhaps on the back of the one shoulder. That way it can be seen a bit more if I choose; I almost never go shirtless (It's that white skin thing again).

So good idea or dumb shit idea?

Suggestions/comments?

Is the rabbit with horns... meaningful in some way? Is there a reason why you're considering branding him on your ass? You, a man with grown kids?

One question. Why?

At least you have the advantage of not getting it when you're 20 and seeing what that horny bunny looks like 50 years later. Eww.

I think, if you really want a tattoo, then go for it, but I would say Derek has a very good point, does your avatar mean that much to you? I think alot of people get tattoos without really thinking about it, as some right of passage or attempt to be unique or because it's the thing to do.

I also tend to think alot of people who go all out and get smothered in them, have body and self image issues, but thats just my take.

I doubt your about to go that far though :D

So yeah, if you like the tat design and your ass is the place you want it, get it. I would probably choose someplace else, personally, but it has to be where you want it and not anyone else.

Just remember it is permanent and if you dislike the tiniest thing about how it turns out, having it removed is 10x worse than the application. If you're worried about needles, a laser blistering your skin off isn't good either.

I have a tattoo I got when I was 19, it's small (2 inches) on the inside of my right elbow. I don't hate it enough to have it removed, but it doesn't mean the same thing to me now as it did back when I got it and if I could easily wash it off I would.

It's your choice but that's my personal experience.

A genuine thanks to all.

Is the ava meaningful in some way? No, and yes. Mostly no. It is reflective of my personality. Maybe it is just reflective of it currently but really I think my personality has not changed so much as that I've grown more comfortable with it over time.

I was thinking of about the size of a quarter and keep it somewhere pretty well hidden. Inside the elbow, is kind of a good idea. But to Subra's comment of "if I could wash it off" is most likely how I would end up feeling about it.

Jzone's imagery of a tattoo on a wrinkled body that is not that many years down the road certainly killed it if nothing else.

Derek, how many people you meet in life that have kids and your thought was "they really should have". Having kids unfortunately is not the sign of wisdom many think it to be. I do hope I'm better than average on that one though.

So this idea goes into the pile of my truly stupid ideas never to be acted upon.

I guess I should add that I have more outside influences going on than I'd like to have and I really need to remember to stay "me".

If being you includes having a bunny tattoo on your ass, go for it. If I ever get a tattoo I will be sure to put it where I can't see it without some effort and several mirrors, just in case I stop liking it.

Yea, I like my bunny with horns but that may change.

Derek, please note it is a bunny, not a rabbit, with horns.

A stray thought. we should have another round of GFO Awards but with a twist:

Hey, at least I'm inclusive and accounted for the female side of GFO.

Looks like a rabbit ( Cunniculus, Sylvilagus sp. ) to me, not a hare (Lepus ).

Does the Jackalope have a certain variation of the legends to it? Over here it's just to fool the tourists, alike the slope chicken or the polar snake, that like. We've got the "Dilldapp" too, another variation of "Wolpertinger", how these fantasy animals are called in Bavaria.

Wanted a tattoo at times, and I drew the concept some 20 years ago, but then I had times when I thought, it wouldn't make sense if no one ever would come to see it in the first place. Spending that amount of money for something no one would ever get to see? No use. So I let it be and bought another sail.

This is one of those I designed, another one is just the skull and crossed Sabers, and I wanted a Windsurfer on the other upper arm. And then I saw all these people at the beach, who were to bad artists, or they had their skin shrink or whatever, and the eagle would look like an overweight turkey or something, and so I wouldn't want the skull to look like a Toltec head after 20 years...

haha I'm glad you decided not to get it.

I'm not a huge fan of tattoos just bc why put a bumper sticker on a ferrari? I always say that haha. But they aren't awful and I certainly wouldn't view it as a deal breaker for a relationship or anything like that.

That's funny. I like that. Interesting, because I was always dead set against having any kind of sticker on my cars.

Also, not a deal breaker for me either. My boyfriend has some on one leg. Better on him, way better, than me.

I grew up in western PA. As a kid I supposedly hunted. I say supposedly because I never really shot anything. I wasn't into eating game meat so I wasn't going to kill an animal over nothing. Basically I went for long walks in the woods and shot at random shit (like tv's) if I came across something. Other than that, target practice. Anyways, my parents and oldest brother had a cabin in the north. One winter weekend my brother and I were there, a neighbor picked us up during a snow storm and we went to a local bar. There was a jackalope on the wall. I drank for the first time with my oldest brother; I was underage but that area, that time, no one cared. I didn't even ask. The bar tender just put a glass of beer in front of me. I was only given a couple and that was cool.

My long term bf had a number of tattoos, mostly geometric shapes on his arms. Lying in bed I traced them with my finger and asked him to tell me about them, but only got rebuffed. I never figured that out and never asked again. If I ever put permanent art on my body, I hope I will be able to always tell the story.

I'd go for something subtle like this:
