Thoughts on "gay" travel?

Unread postby dogdad91 » 13 October 2021, 01:16

A few newly-single friends and I (all around 30) are from Toronto, and thinking of doing a road trip in California/Nevada/Arizona or Florida/New Orleans this winter, partly for a change in "scenery" (gay that is loool)

My initial thinking was more low-key, just local clubs/events in LA, SF, etc on the weekends and just having fun trying new versions of yourself with no social consequences

We're now getting suggestions for places like Fort Lauderdale, Palm Springs "White Party" and Atlantis gay cruises... I've never been to any of those, but the idea of gay-destination travel has always been a bit of a turn-off for me. Besides the sexually-charged atmosphere and expectations in interactions, I picture mostly old guys, plus cliquey grindr tribes seeking out their twins lol. I've pretty much only dated or hooked up with much better-looking guys than myself, probably because my character/respectability was the draw.... that would likely be of no benefit at a meat market like these places lol right? The hottest guys I've ever been with are usually in opposite type of contexts, where the supply is low and they don't get to compare options haha. I also hear the gayer it is the more racist lol... any minorities care to confirm or correct my assumptions?

^^Was told by an ex and some gay friends, but also had first hand experience. Mostly subtle stuff like the more noticeable separation of cliques by race in gay clubs vs straight clubs, waiting longer to get a drink at the bar, attracting mainly non-scene guys in person or on apps, etc.

Didn't really want to get into that part - I'm most just wondering if it any fun trying these places as a "non-scene" guy who isn't a gym queen, or would I be bored out of my mind at the vapid interactions lol

My vote is for Northern California, the Russian River area, town of Guerneville, if you guys are tried of the city life. The town has been a gay resort area since the 70's. We drove from S.F., driving is a must, no way to get there without. Good for low keyed fun and great surroundings.

I'm not really entirely sure what "gay travel" is, but I'm assuming you mean visiting accepting places to check out the gay scene. I've always wanted to do that in maybe Ireland or Japan. Seems like it would be fun.

I saw this thread and thought it meant something akin to time travel, but more fabulous and involving horny, scantily clad men..

Like someone could travel vast distances on the power of gay, just plug one in to your car and off it goes.

Or maybe so much gay can be gathered into one space and time, that some kind of quantum gayness ensues and suddenly the laws of physics are rewritten in rainbow colored sequins and we could walk through the anus of time and space, to materialise someplace else.

But instead it's about places to visit.

I'm disappointed.

The vikings have changed.

If they looked like that when they first arrived in the British Isles in the 8th century, we'd all be speaking Norwegian.

Here! Here!! I thought (probably still is) Ragnar was HOT. He was the only reason I watched the show, well not the only reason, but he was a big part of it. I have always had a for vikings. But, being from Wisconsin, the Minn. Vikings still suck a big one.

Well, I have to admit, and I apologize for further careening off topic, that an actor that I thought hot or whatever in a specific role, might not wind my clock in the same way when I see him in something else or, eegads, 'being himself' on some talk show. If one searches for images of Travis Fimmel, there are plenty from his earlier career that just do nothing for me - but I'm not really into twinks or pretty boys. So some of it has to do specifically with the persona created for Vikings, a show I have thoroughly enjoyed.

Another good example: I have and probably always will have a tremendous crush on Titus Pullo from Rome. Will be honest and say nothing else Ray Stevenson has done has elicited anything remotely like that response. Someday I might have to think what that actually means. ;)

And since I'm so far on tangent, Liev Schreiber is an actor I've always found quite attractive. However, after watching Operation Filmmaker - a documentary where I can only assume he was being himself - his demeanor was so repulsive that I haven't looked at him the same since. Also, I'm not a fan of aggressive (as opposed to light) manscaping or complete depilation, so there's that as well.

And don't get me started on Tom Ellis in Lucifer ...

Yeah, I don't think I'd ever be interested in an actual actor. With one or two exceptions.

I might love a character, but I'd be undeniably saddened when the actor inevitably failed to actually be that character in real life.

I might make exceptions for Henry Cavill. The guy loves pc gaming and warhammer (which isn't my thing, but fantasy stuff is)

Maybe Ben Barnes because, I do like pretty men with poise.
