To forum youngsters: Become an andrologist

Unread postby harel » 28 May 2020, 21:38

I have already chosen my professional path and cannot change it. It is somewhat related to medicine. However, if you are still ahead of choosing a field of study, I have a hint. I have seen that the minimum age for the new users was reduced to 16.

First, I have heard female students saying that andrology is the worst specialty, because it is on “guys’ junk”. I hate when women disrespect men in this way, but it is not my point here. In fact, there are almost no female andrologists. Also, most men are not interested in that. There are multiple more men who become gynecologists than andrologists. Look, there are still no consistent results on most male health problems, including risk factors for “male” cancers and most determinants of testosterone and DHT levels, among other things. For example, a 2007 study in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, revealed that in the United States since the 1980s, the average testosterone levels has declined by about 1% per year. Nothing is done to stop this.

Second, when I started going to a gym, I visited an andrologist. Frankly speaking, I was interested in my testosterone levels and it was the possibility to receive the results free of charge. Look, all patients waiting there were men aged 18-35 years old. Every appointment starts with testicular examination. It was slightly painful, frankly speaking. In the city, where I live, there are two (!) andrologists per the population of hundreds of thousands people. So, there are queues.

So, if you are a gay teenager, this profession will not be difficult aesthetically for you and you will be able to help other men a lot. Why not?

I mostly dig holes with a pickaxe. Do you think my skills are transferable? My finesse with a pickaxe is quite legendary, I assure you. I wager that I could pickaxe nearly any testicular abnormality with surgical precision. :P

Actually, I did think about going to study medicine for a hot minute. I thought I'd have liked to be a GP, though. Anyway, I thought andrology was a branch of medicine, not just somewhat related? Are you studying medicine and going into andrology as a speciality?

Interestingly enough, so far I've never gone to a urologist that was gay. They were all straight, and most of them had a picture of them with their families to prove they weren't interested in molesting their patients. Lol.

Can we even trust a straight urologist?

I've always wondered what drives a dude to become an urologist. I mean, when does the sentence "oh boy, I want to spend my life grabbing dicks, fondling balls and sticking a finger up guy's bums! Yeah, that's my calling" pop into their head?

Maybe the photos are the result of PhotoShop magic. A photo of the doctor pasted into a family photo found floating about the Internet.

Or else maybe the photo is real, but the family is just a bunch of models hired for the photo session.

Might be after an analysis of "how much can I make, and how soon can I buy my Mercedes?" of each medical specialty.

I don't think they'd go that far, considering that probably 99% of people won't leave a doctor's appointment just because he doesn't have a family picture lol.

I have already chosen a specialty and, somewhat regretfully, it is not endocrinology or andrology. While reading your posts, I have just realised that in most Western-world countries andrology is subdiscipline of urology. According to our local understanding, it is a subdiscipline of endocrinology (also at the university).

I suppose that it is a good choice for non-heterosexual men. First, it is not/less aesthetically difficult. Second, if you want to design a low-budget study in other disciplines of medicine or social sciences, you are not likely to deliver new insights. It is always confirming/rejecting previous results. In andrology, there are many problems, which nobody has investigated yet (or once/twice).

I find it disturbing that you’d involve a persons sexuality in their decision making for career choice within medicine. I wouldn’t want to see an andrologist who chose the path because he’s gay, I’d want to see one because they’re genuinely interested in the male reproductive system and how to treat problems with it.

The fact you’re suggesting something like this makes me concerned about your own motivations to your chosen career path and whether the patients you’re treating are receiving ethical care.

Aha, yeah. It's a bit strange to be emphasising that it wouldn't be "aesthetically difficult" for gay doctors. I mean, I'd have hoped that this wouldn't really be a consideration. Not sure if it's intentional, but the insinuations are slightly creepy.
