David Bowie tried contacting Camille Paglia for permission to use some of her writing as part of his lyrics on an album, but she thought it was a hoax and never returned his call, only realizing that it really was him shortly after his death.

What have you learned today?

Unread postby Subra » 22 December 2017, 00:57

I learned that dark chocolate contains caffeine, and that there are three teachings in Chinese philosophy: Toaism (humans and the natural order), Confucianism (humans and society), and Buddhism (humans and the metaphysical).

Cool thread idea. :)

I've learned that I need to start saying no to a lot of people in my life. I've always been a yes man. And I've seen people take advantage of that. I can't keep doing that.

That's gonna be by new years resolution. :).

I learnt that the human body does not deal with 2 bottles of rosé very well in a short period of time.

We already had a very similar thread, so I merged yours with it! :)

It also contains other stimulants such as phenethylamine, but all in quite small quantities.

The PEA content is utterly negligible, and PEA is nearly inactive in normal humans anyway due to rapid degradation by the MAO-B enzyme. Chocolate is about 0.0003% PEA by weight. A typical human who doesn't take MAO-B inhibitors would need to eat more than 150 kg of chocolate for a threshold dose, and even then the effect (if it were to be felt) would last mere minutes.

I only learned today that the majority of UK Apple Pay terminals now accept ‘limitless’ transactions well above the £30 contactless card limit. I stopped carrying cash a while ago, now I can pretty much ditch my wallet. Which is nice.

That’s been the case since around last autumn, maybe even earlier.

That psychoanalysis according to Lacanian school , has no unified scenario for everyone, which is, if you think about it, quite contrary to an idea of psychotherapist, who "always knows what to say".
