I learned that Medea, in Euripides play of the same name, is a total badass and that if there were any feminist movements back in her day, she'd have totally been a feminist icon (even if she did, kind of, murder half her family).

That the 🤟 hand signal that I mostly associate with heavy metal fans is actually just sign language for “I love you”, which makes heavy metal enthusiasts suddenly much more endearing.

The heavy metal hand sign has the thumb bent inwards and represents horns: 🤘

Horns or, alternatively, Spider-Man.

Well there we go, heavy metal fans. I tried to like you, I tried to think you were actually horribly misunderstood guys that were in touch with your emotions, but Brenden wouldn’t have it. So fuck you all.

I know some American sigh languages... there’s also another way to do it in ASL... my favorite sign is you me friends. I wanna brush up on my ASL... it tickles death people when you do sign language with them. Especially with unable to lip read with the face mask in stores and such...

Big love for Satan.

OT: TIL that there are no arsonists in Scotland, and there never has been.

There are, of course, divergent legal codes in the UK's constituent nations, and "arson" is not a legitimate legal term in Scotland. Instead, the crime is termed "wilful fire raising". "Manslaughter" also never happens. It's "culpable homicide".

England has way better names for crimes.

The mathematician Percy Heawood spent the last 60 years of his life elusively trying to prove the Four Colours Theorem (ultimately proved after his death by exhaustion using a supercomputer). This theorem, which states that you need at most four colours to colour a map without any two colours touching, isn’t really relevant to any other area of mathematics and cartographers don’t even make use of it.

Who was complaining that maps were unacceptably colourful? 🤔

"The fresh heart of a puffin is eaten raw as a traditional Icelandic delicacy." — From the Wikipedia article about puffins.

"A significant decline in numbers of puffins in Shetland is worrying scientists."

Maybe that's where they're all going! Maybe Shetlanders should start catching and eating the hearts of offending Icelanders to counteract the decline.

Today I learned that René is not above cannibalism to save endangered species. I am never clicking on the “What are you eating?” topic again. :runaway:

In 2012 in the US there were 259 justifiable homicides with guns ('good guys with guns'), meanwhile about 232,000 guns are stolen each year ('bad guys with guns' get even more guns from 'good guys with guns'). So protec, much defence, wow.

Today I learned that birds are becoming more sentient. I got pissed off at one, and it pooped on me. But, since I'm one who doesn't believe in coincidences, and that everything that happens to us happens because it's supposed to happen or has some sort of meaning attached to it, I'm trying to figure out what today meant lol.
Here's an example of the Universe trying to tell you that you need healing in an area of your life:

Someone who struggles with showing emotion. This person, in their lifetime, will constantly struggle with this, and that is because, they choose to ignore or disregard the fact that they have trouble showing emotion. Most people will ignore this issue, and will continue to fracture themselves. And this goes with pretty much any problem that happens in your life that is recurring. Don't pass up an opportunity to make you "whole" again.

According to one actuarial table, based on my age and biological sex, I’ve a 0.73% chance of dying in the next five years. I feel as though it would be higher if it took into account certain other facts about me. But I suppose no actuarial table is perfect!
