I learned that Medea, in Euripides play of the same name, is a total badass and that if there were any feminist movements back in her day, she'd have totally been a feminist icon (even if she did, kind of, murder half her family).
"Ask nothing more of me, sweet;
All I can give you I give.
Heart of my heart, were it more,
More would be laid at your feet—
Love that should help you to live,
Song that should spur you to soar.

All things were nothing to give,
Once to have sense of you more,
Touch you and taste of you, sweet,
Think you and breathe you and live,
Swept of your wings as they soar,
Trodden by chance of your feet.

I that have love and no more
Give but love of you, sweet.
He that hath more, let him give;
He that hath wings, let him soar;
Mine is the heart at your feet
Here, that must love you to live."

That the 🤟 hand signal that I mostly associate with heavy metal fans is actually just sign language for “I love you”, which makes heavy metal enthusiasts suddenly much more endearing.

The heavy metal hand sign has the thumb bent inwards and represents horns: 🤘

Horns or, alternatively, Spider-Man.

Well there we go, heavy metal fans. I tried to like you, I tried to think you were actually horribly misunderstood guys that were in touch with your emotions, but Brenden wouldn’t have it. So fuck you all.

I know some American sigh languages... there’s also another way to do it in ASL... my favorite sign is you me friends. I wanna brush up on my ASL... it tickles death people when you do sign language with them. Especially with unable to lip read with the face mask in stores and such...

Big love for Satan. :heart:

OT: TIL that there are no arsonists in Scotland, and there never has been.

There are, of course, divergent legal codes in the UK's constituent nations, and "arson" is not a legitimate legal term in Scotland. Instead, the crime is termed "wilful fire raising". "Manslaughter" also never happens. It's "culpable homicide".

England has way better names for crimes.

The mathematician Percy Heawood spent the last 60 years of his life elusively trying to prove the Four Colours Theorem (ultimately proved after his death by exhaustion using a supercomputer). This theorem, which states that you need at most four colours to colour a map without any two colours touching, isn’t really relevant to any other area of mathematics and cartographers don’t even make use of it.

Who was complaining that maps were unacceptably colourful? 🤔

"The fresh heart of a puffin is eaten raw as a traditional Icelandic delicacy." — From the Wikipedia article about puffins.

"A significant decline in numbers of puffins in Shetland is worrying scientists."

Maybe that's where they're all going! Maybe Shetlanders should start catching and eating the hearts of offending Icelanders to counteract the decline.

Today I learned that René is not above cannibalism to save endangered species. I am never clicking on the “What are you eating?” topic again. :runaway:
