Tonight's chat

Unread postby Eryx » 7 March 2014, 08:53

I wish I could have screencapped everything that was written on tonight's chat. I wish I could post it somewhere. When it began, I had no reaction and I had so much respect for some people there that it never really made me decide to take some action. I wish I did, though.

Tonight's conversation was delightful, mostly. Thanks, Novax, for all the help you provided me with. Thank you, Momentous, for being there during my confessions and having patience to pitch in, even though you were a complete asshole afterwards. You deserve some respect for the latter.

A long time ago, I left GayTeenForum for something silly: ThalidoCide was banned. He was a dick and he had no regard for any of the forum's rules or anyone else's feelings. I defended him solely on the fact that he was somewhat of a friend and cared about my presence.

This time, however, I leave because I honestly disagree with what I've seen on the chat. The conversation I had with arcanepersona has nothing to do with that, I might've overstepped and/or maybe have been too sensitive, but I did apologize for that and what came after was completely uncalled for (uncalled for, does any GTFO mod remember that expression by any chance?).

The conversation on chat was not appropriate. It is not about being politically correct, it's about going against everything this and the forum stand for. It's about being hypocritical to the core and not caring that this isn't a ~muricah~ forum. This isn't Reddit's red pill. This isn't Men's Rights. And you were actually as childish as they are.

The playfulness became bitterness too quickly and I've never felt more uncomfortable and unhappy about what I was reading. And that's the reason it wasn't just not okay there, it wasn't okay anywhere, and just because nobody is seeing you doesn't mean you can be as much of a dick as you want. It doesn't mean your opinions are automatically validated, even if your companies are as much of dicks as you are.

I'm done. I never thought it would come to this, but it did. And well, to the people that were in that chat that are probably going to say "tl;dr" and to the ones that weren't there and will side with them mindlessly on it, fine. Suit yourselves. The greatest liberty we all still maintain is about who we associate ourselves with. And I did love to try and be helpful in this forum. I did love the sense of safety it gave me. I just don't feel at home here anymore.

Cheers. If anyone wants to keep in touch, I'm available on Facebook and I won't say no to GTF/GFO friends. Well, most of them.

And for those of us that weren't in the chat - you know, most of us - what was the topic that has inspired such righteous fury in you?

I was in chat and I'm lost tbh.
Blow: "Nowadays even Liam can release an album of his screechy vocals and it'll probably go #1..."
Ramzus: I can admit that I'm horny just about 24/7
homomorphism: I used to not think your name was deshay and that Erick was just being racist
Hunter: sometimes I think I was literally born to be a pornstar

I'm not sure what exactly I said to have me called a complete asshole, but I apologise if I offended you.
Anyway, the entire chat was playful and not serious in the slightest. You could've left the chat, rather than the forum.

See, now if I was particularly offended by this Bieberconda conversation, I'd just leave the chat for 5 minutes until it went away. I wouldn't go all jihad and make an incredibly oblique reference to it before blowing myself up.

It was a pleasure, I'm happy I could have been of some help.

Now I'm possibly gonna undo all that good with what I have to say next. I'm not going say you are being over-sensitive or over-reacting because if you were offended or felt mistreated then there must be some basis to why you're feeling that. However I will mention that it is best to take what is said in chat with a grain of salt. Things are said without proper contemplation and in the spur of the moment, while that does not really excuse it causing you to feel uncomfortable, disrespected or discriminated against we all do say things we regret from time to time.

Although I think the most likely explanation is that people were merely making jokes that again should have been more properly thought through before pressing enter. It is more difficult to convey sarcasm, facial expressions and emotions through short messages so statements intended to appear as jokes do not appear as such. Again this is not to condone the statements even if they were jokes but good people can make jokes in bad fashion from time to time.

I'm not posting this to defend anyone, I just thought it would be a pity to lose a valuable member of the forum over a misunderstanding. We need to embrace each other and occasionally forgive each others lapses to be a strong community.

Naturally, I have no idea what the fuck you guys are talking about, but Eryx, I don't see at all how leaving the forum makes any kind of statement, other than the fact that you can be bullied out of a place that you would otherwise enjoy. If we were all going to school together, I could see how you could feel physically threatened by someone's verbal assaults, but here, no matter how reprehensible the language, there is no such threat. It's as simple as not interacting with people who irrevocably piss you off, and that's a life skill. I enjoy your contributions; please stick around.

Hmm. I go into the chat room most evenings and I rarely experience conversations that I'm uncomfortable with. Perhaps you were unlucky in your timing. Either way, maybe you should avoid the chat room, but do stick around on the forum as you seem like a cool guy. :)
Don't think about doing it tomorrow. You won't do it tomorrow. Do it today.

Is there one running at the moment? I thought he was still in pre-production for the next one.
