Back home in my quiet little town after a week in NYC. Actually — I arrived home, changed clothes, and went out to a friend's party. 30 years in a row celebrating winter solstice with good food and fun talents. I made it home sometime after 2am.

I enjoy the darkest time of the year as a season of indulgence in order to maintain sanity.

Procrastinating going to the grocery store. We really should stock up on milk since the store will close early tomorrow and then'll be closed for Christmas and Boxing Day, but I just don't want to put on my coat and trek there. Ugh.

I’m taking the remainders of pillar candles and the leftovers of scented wax melts and melting them down, mixing them up, and pouring the wax into old glass food jars with wicks. There is some scent leftover in the wax melts, but not much, and I’ve put all the red ones together which include a mix of, e.g., cherry, apple & cinnamon, “mulled wine”, etc., so the result is basically red candles with hint of fruitiness and spice.

After Christmas is over and I’ve finished burning those, I’ll melt down all the sandalwood, cedarwood, and other woody/earthy wax melts that are brown or tan coloured, and to them I’ll add extra sandalwood oil to make proper scented candles.

Here's one that's now finished and currently burning on our coffee table (with a metal heat distributor):

And here's the second from today which is still cooling:

I just topped it up with a bit more wax, because as wax cools from the outside in it shrinks and creates a dip in the centre.

Interesting, you use this phrasing in Australia too? I always thought of it as a peculiarity of Dutch. Unless you're literally sitting on your iMac? :runaway:

If I had held out for two more hours I'd share a birthday with Hitler.

Although, with time difference, it was already Hitler's birthday in Europe.

Also, stoner day.

About to take my niece to see frozen 2.
Its been tradition since i was a kid for us to go to the movie's on christmas eve. Gives my mom some time to wrap presents and cook whatever she needs to.

What are your guy's plans for christmas?

Because it’s a Tuesday and on Tuesdays and Wednesdays we get 2 for 1 cinema tickets, René and I decided to go to the cinema too. The first one we tried, a long walk from the train station in Glasgow, was all sold out, so we walked all the way back to a different cinema north of the train station and saw it later than planned, which means we didn’t have time to visit the main shopping street with all the Christmas lights afterwards like we had planned.

But anyway, tonight I’m opening a bottle of sparkling wine and calling my mom and maternal grandparents because they celebrate on Christmas Eve. Tomorrow I’m making a mini feast as usual and I’ll be calling the rest of my family. Maybe on Boxing Day we’ll do a psychedelic! In the past we’ve tended to do it on either Christmas Eve or New Year’s Eve.

Burning frankincense resin. I love the smell so much! I still have the remainder of 50 g I got from an occult bookshop back in Michigan many years ago for just $4.

Funny fact: much like Florida essentially banned cheese with their overly broad drug legislation, the UK government had to assure the Church of England and the Catholic Church that they wouldn't prosecute them for importing frankincense, which is proven to have psychoactive effects and thus technically falls under the definitions of the Psychoactive Substances Act 2016.
