Airplane mode turns off Bluetooth functionality on which my wireless keyboard and mouse rely. So how would one ordinarily turn airplane mode off if you can’t use these any longer? Luckily I had a wired mouse stored somewhere that I used to circumvent the predicament but that seems like a clunky solution. Restarting my PC also didn’t work to turn it off. I feel like this is a boomer question that has a really obvious answer staring me in the face. :shifty:

The obvious answer is to not use an operating system as stupid and buggy as Windows.

I would if I wasn’t so lazy to learn a new operating system.

I find it funny that a desktop operating system includes airplane mode.

It's because Microsoft is trying to make Windows a jack of all trades and doesn't seem to care about making it work differently for different kinds of devices.

Also, I find it funny that it would turn off Bluetooth too. iOS/iPadOS knows not to do this when it goes into airplane mode.

I suppose it kind of makes sense as it's naturally also a laptop operating system which will be used during flights, though you'd think they might switch off the flight-mode feature when there's no sign it's living on a laptop. :P

It's probably to do with Microsoft's decision a while back that everything should run the same unified software, and they started making tablets and altering Windows to make it work the way you would expect a tablet to work — without making many exceptions when it actually finds itself on a (stationary, non-touch-interface) desktop computer. :runaway:

Yeah that was really apparent with Windows 8 when it tried to eliminate the task bar and replace it with tiles as if your desktop should function as a tablet or phone. -_-

Your laptop doesn't have a built-in touchpad?

This is a desktop, not a laptop.

I also somehow initially defaulted to thinking it was a laptop, but then I figured the story didn't make any sense. It's not like you're gonna be like "Oh right! It is a laptop! Forgot all about the touchpad since I never use it!"

Why would your desktop be on airplane mode?

Because it’s located on the taskbar near other features and I pressed it by accident. The better question is, why include it in the first place?

What, you've never bought two plane tickets so you can bring your desktop computer as a carryon, set up your monitor on the tray table, and play Counterstrike?

Finally finished setting Arch after fresh install. This week the maintainers must have eaten the wrong mushrooms cuz there's a lot of nonsense going on with the Arch packages and the keyring. But I eventually found a workaround this nonsense and now I can finally create a backup and relax.

When I was growing up, my mom would always mention this lost cousin of hers that she had. During one of his last contacts with the family, he told everyone that he had moved to FL, and an older lady had died, left him as the beneficiary to her estate, and her family was pissed. I should also add around this time he went to my aunt's house, on a motorcycle, came in with a loaded gun, and kept it under his pillow. She quickly kicked him out. So there's been really no contact since then (not because of the gun incident--it wasn't like a huge deal--he prob just got a hotel room).

Anyway, recently, I've been getting into true crime, like everyone else lol, so I decided to try to add him to NAMUS, the govt website which is like the clearinghouse for missing and unidentified people in the US. But I couldn't add him because we didn't have a police report for a missing person. So long story short, I mentioned him on WebSleuths (another forum) and someone made a thread for him. These people are great at finding people. They found one of his last addresses and his ex-wife. We knew he was alive up until at least Nov 1999.

Well, someone just found his grave. He died in 2004 in Kentucky of all places. Sort of sad. I found his ex-wife on FB and in her "friends" she has a young lady with his last name. I messaged her, thinking he could be her daughter. She lives about 20 min from where he lived in FL. It could be a coincidence but who knows.

Will do!

EDIT: so the way i found the girl who I thought was his daughter was by finding his ex-wife's FB and searching for people with his last name in her friend's list. Then the girl popped up with his last name. I actually talked to her today. She is not related to my mom's cousin but she's friends with his ex-wife because that's her good friend's mother. Soo it turns out that my mom's cousin was this guys step-dad while he was married to his mom. The guy is apparently maybe contacting me soon. We will see.
