Well don’t leave us all hanging in suspense, René. What are the differences?

So far:

  • Their idea of satay sauce (peanut sauce) is about as different as you can get while still making something that can be described as a sauce based on peanuts. What I'm used to is a thick, non-spicy sauce made with peanut butter, milk and soy sauce. What I got was a thin, spicy sauce that is clearly not made in the same way.
  • The noodles are a different shape and not as good.
  • In the Netherlands you can always get a dish called fu yong hai, which is a kind of omelette in a tomato sauce. That doesn't seem to exist here. There are some "egg foo young" dishes, but they are inferior.

I blame colonisation.

Has anyone ever tried Japanese soufflé pancakes? They look appealing but once you take a bite they taste way too much like egg. Kinda disappointing.

Food should be based on taste, not structural integrity. I love souffle omelettes though.

I agree taste should be the most important aspect of food. But look and feel are important as well. Even the smell effects our perception of what were eating.

I just had a turkey and swiss hoagie tonight.

What’s the best dessert you have tried? I’m on a foodie quest to look for the best pastry.

Pastéis de nata are so good. Warm with cinnamon on top and a glass of port.

I made hard "boiled" eggs this morning in my Instant Pot and they came out amazing. Ridiculously easy to peel and perfectly cooked inside.
