Grilled leeks and cooked bacon are good things to have in your fridge. Bake a potato, make mac and cheese, cook an omelette, do a risotto...

I got in the habit of not eating again. Everyone got fat staying at home this year and I managed to lose what precious weight I have.

I have a forest of leeks in my garden. Bacon sounds like a fine combo.

So what have we learned?

A yellow "Reduced" sticker does not mean "It is in your interest to buy this product you would not otherwise buy."!

But when I'm shopping having just walked 8.5 miles and feeling hungry then it really seems like a good idea.

Grocery shopping while hungry is the best shopping because you get such great food!

In college, I was prescribed adderall, and grocery shopping was so painful. I didn't want to eat anything aside from yogurt.

You think? I try to avoid shopping when I'm hungry or I come home with all manner of food I neither need or even really want. The hunger makes me lose all perspective and I'm buying things I wouldn't normally eat and will likely sit in the back of the fridge/cupboard, once I've eaten something and the hunger munchies wear off.

And cakes and sweets seem to feature prominently.

Maybe you moderate yourself better? Or maybe you don't and thats the bit you like? :keke:

I'm having a bit of a decadent, delicious, calorie-dense but healthy dessert :D

Full-fat Greek-style yogurt with 70%-cacao dark-chocolate chunks, stevia sweetener, set honey and maple syrup

Why are recipe blogs so odious? The ladies who write them spend all this fucking time blathering on and on about their kids and other irrelevant garbage before getting to the fucking ingredients and directions. Do they really think others give a shit?
Blow: "Nowadays even Liam can release an album of his screechy vocals and it'll probably go #1..."
Ramzus: I can admit that I'm horny just about 24/7
homomorphism: I used to not think your name was deshay and that Erick was just being racist
Hunter: sometimes I think I was literally born to be a pornstar

I heard someone say it's because they're trying to juice their metrics. It forces people to spend more time on the page searching for the actual recipe.

My hot tip is that blogs of that format never contain recipes worth following. It's the instagram of food.

It's a weird thing, but I honestly believe cook books are still the best place to find recipes. There are lots of bad ones obviously, but chefs seem to be much more consistent in print than they are in blogs, and finding a chef you like lets you find their more distinctive and idiosyncratic stuff. But if I just want to cook, like, boeuf bourguignon, I'll break out a classic like Mastering the Art of French Cooking, and I have a few enormous books on bread I refer to regularly.

Maybe I've just had bad experiences, but online seems to come in two types. Either it's a woman named Ashleigh or Tennifer who wants to tell you about the several emotional revelations she had this morning concerning the journey that is motherhood before listing a recipe that's just, like, pancakes with kale for some fucking reason, or it's a site like allrecipes that gives stripped down versions of recipes you'd find on the side of a box, including the way-too-long cooking time and an egregious amount of salt.

When I do look online, though, I tend to forgo the blogs and look at, like, Epicurious or Bon Appetit (I think it's the same company?). I used to have a subscription to one of the magazines but I don't remember which one. It's a decent mix of classics and trendy shit, but typically workshopped past the point of being very interesting.

Our boyfriend and I have found some quite nice recipes among those blog-style ones.

But he also has a bunch of cookbooks in which we've found a lot of recipes to do, too.
