Why's it your holy book?

I think it taught me lots of things, or at least illustrated many things very clearly. I suppose that it taught me that carefully studied hard and fast answers to life's big question aren't especially valuable, and that finding peace, fulfilment, nirvana or whatever it is people call it is a personal journey which is unique to you. Lots of paths and one destination; one man's wisdom, another man's garbage; etc. Other things, too, although I'm not sure if I can articulate them very well. The unity of all things and that peace is in accepting and loving life in its entirety; joy and pain. Something like that. Presumably, it appealed to the already ingrained buddhistic ideas which seem to have seeped in to my head over the last two years.

And so I suppose that makes me, somewhat jokingly, calling it a "holy book" very paradoxical. It certainly resonated with me on a personal level, anyway.

It's The Life of Brian mixed written by the Beatles during their hazy period.

And yes, you're right. I feel like if I wanted to help someone understand Buddhism, I'd point them to that book first, and then on to the Canons.

I'd like to be finishing The Prince of Tides, which is what I've been reading now for ages, but instead I'm writing out note cards for my Pharmacology class. Boooooring!

I'm beginning to worry even myself. I haven't really stopped reading since I started three days ago. And if I don't finish it today, work will not go well for me tomorrow. Bosses don't take well to you barking at them to shut up so you can concentrate while you read cyberpunk at your desk.

Oh my god, this book. I was the same way with it! Tell me your thoughts when you finish it!

I'm actually reading two books right now, The Lost Symbol, by Dan Brown and You Lost Me, by David Kinnamon. Kind of a weird combination, but its good to see people here are well read.

I actually picked it up today. It was on the same table as 50 shades of grey and it was buy 2 get 1 free but my dad was with me so I was afraid.

"A Drunk Man Looks at the Thistle", a long poem by Hugh MacDiarmid. So far: Scotsman gets drunk, fall over on a hillside and laments Scotland's cultural decline; neatly epitomised in the fact that his whiskey is noticeably watered down.

Teen Wolf slash fiction recommended by Reese, called Cupboard Love. In which there are no wolves, Stiles is a good cook and Derek is still a rich sourpuss.

Just finished The Casual Vacancy by J.K. Rowling.

In my personal opinion, probably the most powerful book I've ever had the privilege of reading.

Dude, it is. After seeing my library a friend gave me it and told me I'd love it. I was skeptical (and burning through a couple other books) and didn't pick it up for another week. Now I've read 400 pages in the last three days. I'll let you know my final impression though. But so far - highly recommend.

A William Gibson book I haven't read? This needs to be corrected immediately. Should have mentioned within this thread that I finished Zero History not long ago. Arguably my favorite author.
