We had a HUGE protest in philly today.
Idk what they think there accomplishing by damaging things in there own neighborhoods. Your just hurting yourself. They lit a few cop cars on fire. Plus many pedestrian cars. They robbed stores all over. Open or closed. The news guy just walked through a busted door from a tmobile store. Like wtf?
I get protest but not anarchy. It is senseless and stupid and just devalues your point.
Now anyone out in philly has to be inside by 9 o clock.
These are criminals using a protest as a disguise to loot and rob stores. It's sad to see people like this make the news. Then actually people that care.

I'm in columbus ohio and I hear guns firing outside because of the stuff going on right now. It's where I'm at. I'm not protesting or anything just worried about it being near where I am. Our curfew started at 10.

Lol alright. But yeah. I've notice, when people start protesting and it starts out civil... it suddenly gets worse before it gets good.

Well, I don't see it being good anytime soon really. We're probably at the eye of the hurricane so to say.

Chicago's mayor just did that, but the city's hypersegregation means that I really haven't seen any rioting where I am.

They should try something else, like kneeling during the anthem. Surely that would prove their point and no one would have any kind of problem with it.

Their rioting needs to be directed. Currently they’re just throwing turds into the air regardless of where they land. How about instead of smashing the windows of CNN they set fire to FOX. How about instead of protesting in LA they take to the streets of Orange County where all the Republican whites are. Nothing happened after Occupy Wall Street because the left isn’t good at organizing and having message discipline.

They smashed the windows of the CNN Center because it contains a police precinct.

I saw a picture of a protest in Hollywood, but I'm not sure if it was part of the riots.

Nothing happened after Occupy Wall Street because the left isn’t good at organizing and having message discipline.

Maybe they should have smashed more windows. The media narrative around Occupy was that it was a bunch of spoiled hipsters who didn't even know what they were protesting. I feel like there's a much more cogent idea today of what pisses people off.

One of the co-founders of the Occupy protest agrees that it (and most protests today) was largely a failure.

I’m pretty sure there was a cogent idea behind the Iraq war protests as well. I’m not suggesting people shouldn’t vent but let’s not pretend this is a vehicle for change like it used to be. At least not in the way people assume protests would lead to change.

Protests aren't going to lead to change, certainly. When football players kneel, it just gets absorbed into the morass that is our discourse. Trump tweets something, the #Resistance talks about Putin, Ellen dabs, and everyone forgets what it was even about.

At least the riots are visceral and real. Politicians are terrified of riots in a way they never have to be terrified about anything else. The short-term effects might be bad but I think it's absolutely necessary that people demonstrate there's a limit to what they'll put up with.

New York Magazine: White People Rioting for No Reason

I have plenty of memories of idiots rioting periodically due to Michigan State University football games, sometimes coming close to my parents' house. Because of losses… or even wins. People pushing over or burning cars, breaking shop windows, looting. Ridiculous. Yet those riots were never dealt with using the National Guard, and largely police just had a hands-off approach and let them peter out.

As much as I dislike the term, it's obviously a white privilege to riot over nonsense.

Exhibit A

My favorite response to that clip is this:

We can’t even have a protest for black lives without white folks appropriating it

Why are the comments right now on Justin Bieber’s Yummy music video all in Spanish talking about Pizzagate? I’m so confused right now.

Huh. As the premier expert on Mr Beiber and his output, do you have any theory on why this could be?

Can't speak Spanish, so feeding comments through translator is slow work.

Ah, might be wingnuttery from a YouTube channel named DrossRotzank. Something about subliminal messages in the video.
