I tried going to the supermarket down the block from me a couple hours ago, but it was closed. And there were many police cars in the parking lot. And there were many, many protesters up the street.

All of this, after two months of quarantine, has sent me into a strange listlessness.

This is interesting. New psych research finds extreme protest actions reduce popular support for social movements. “We found extreme anti-Trump protest actions actually led people to not only dislike the movement and support the cause less, but to be willing to support Trump more,” Feinberg said. “It was almost like a backlash.” This is exactly what happened to a coworker of mine who’s always criticizing Trump. As soon as the rioting happened she said she wishes Trump sends in the military and even flirted with the idea of martial law. Bizarre but fascinating.

Liberals want workshopped political messaging. They can't imagine being so disaffected and angry that you'd do something as uncivilized as breaking a window.

In other news, Biden's brain is pudding and instead of capitalizing on people's justified rage and Trump's astounding failures of moral leadership, he suggested that cops try shooting people in the leg instead of the chest.

I think it’s connecting the anger with the Gucci store stealing that perplexes them.

So, I’ve been obsessively chewing on ice cubes in my drinks while here, which really bothered René. So he looked it up and saw that it can be a sign of iron deficiency, and sure enough when we looked at the multivitamin we‘ve been taking we saw that it doesn’t contain any iron!

Strange how something like a mineral deficiency can influence behaviour in such ways.

I’ve also been overeating and craving food a lot these last few months, and we’ve been taking this iron-less multivitamin since March, and of course René also read that that as well can be caused by iron deficiency.

The one we were normally taking in the UK has pretty much everything, including all the confirmed essential minerals, but while here in America my aim has been to keep the suspiciousness of our stash of substances down as much as possible, in this case by just using a bottle of Walmart multivitamins. It contains various minerals, but yeah... no iron!

Your mom also has/had an iron deficiency IIRC?

IDK... time to include foods that would increase your iron? Would a vegetarian diet make it harder to get iron?

Yeah, she did, but I think it got better after menopause.

Over here I've been eating quite a bit of meat (although not much red meat), and recently had a lot of shrimp. We've also had spinach several times. I've been eating peanuts and peanut butter, as well as pecans. I made quinoa several times. We've had broccoli a few times. And I baked dark chocolate brownies with a bunch of cocoa and have been nibbling through them for the last week. So plenty of what are supposed to be iron-rich foods.

So maybe I absorb iron poorly and need the extra supplementally.

I would talk to your doctor about that. Blood work? Just don't want to get on supplements that just create expensive pee.

We're a bit far from our doctor's office at the moment (pesky Atlantic Ocean's in the way :P), but anyway, iron isn't excreted in that way and iron supplements cost next to nothing (like, pennies per tablet, less than $1/month). :)

I see. You all are still in the US? I don’t know much about supplements and stuff. I know some people take them and don’t know what all they’re taking and what they need and what goes and what is pointless.

Ugh due to the curfews in the city we cant run our second shift. So they asked for volunteers to stay 2 hours later. So a 12 hour shift today. We had a meeting last week saying mandatory fridays for minimum the next 2 months.
I'm not doing another 12 hour shift tomorrow. I'm tired af and it was nice out today. Its gonna be in the 90's tomorrow. Its gonna be an early night for me.

That is insane. Asking you to do 12 hours and mandatory Fridays? They should be giving you a 3 day weekend!

In this case, adding some iron (actually a better multivitamin/mineral tablet he had lying around that does have iron) does seem to have made a big difference in Brenden's ice cravings. (Of course there is a possible placebo element, but the main thing I wanted was for Brenden to stop damaging his enamel ASAP. :P)

The 10 hour days is usual. And Friday's if we have them are usually mandatory. We didnt have to stay late today though. I mean were running on like half a crew.
Noone could expect all these regulations and curfews. And my job is just going day by day. Today I started an hour late due to riots in Philadelphia. So I guess I worked 11 hours.
I hate that scumbags are using this as a way to just rob places and cause damage. It devalues the cause or any meaning people are trying to make. The news doesn't even cover the protest or George Floyd. All they cover is the looters and scum lighting cars on fire.
I hate where america is right now. Because I know it's much better then this.

LOL as bad as I take care of my teeth... I'm surprise I'm not toothless. Sadly I got tired of dentist lecture me on taking better care of my teeth despite knowing that I have mental health problems and it being hard to. Motivation kinda diminishes when distracted by demons and having a tinfoil hat to prevent government and aliens from reading my mind and thought (half joking half serious)...

What I see day to day. And what EVERY black person have said to me. I've never asked for their opinion on this. But they've shared. Maybe the northeast is more open then where you are. But we all are in agreement around here what is right and what is not.

Living in the midwest (Ohio) I find the topic of race and inequality a subject some may or may not find as sensitive. My family is originally from West Virginia... My grandmothers father (my great grandfather) got away with killing a black kid. My grandma told me stories about hearing radio stations and news and tv about killing black people and instead of going to prison they'd throw a party for them or something along those lines. As for race equality now it's much different from where I"m living now and this day in age. If this continues hopefully we can make it a better place for our children and children's children.
