Been getting really into tennis lately and the ATP Champions Tour is at the Royal Albert Hall in November and I'm considering whether I want to drop money on tickets to it or not...

Does it have to do with cinnamon toast or strawberry ice cream?

I’m having a smoking craving right now, and I had one last evening too. Why am I only craving it now after I quit three weeks ago? If I smoke now it’ll just make me sick. :P

OT: Sometimes I like to think I'm not as slutty as I make jokes about being, but then I do things like agreeing to suck two guys off in one day and realise that no, I am just pretty fucking slutty when I'm allowed to be.

Kinda lame, but I find myself honestly wondering whether anyone on the forum is even awake right now.

Hello, Insomnia, my oldest friend. Why are you visiting this time? Are the thyroid levels off again? Are you dreading that physical exam we have later today that will no doubt be filled with lectures about problems I don’t have while completely ignore the ones I do? Or perhaps that one hour nap this evening threw off the sleep cycle?

Whatever the reason………………………. Fuck. You.

How many exercises on Duolingo is ideal for a single day?

Because I got sucked into it yesterday and ended up doing 1240xp worth of stuff in the course of like half a day and I feel like that's probably the equivalent of trying to cram an entire exam syllabus in one night and that none of it's going to stick because of the information overload.

I do 1 French lesson a day (10-15 XP). Unsurprisingly, I'm not making great progress. However, I do have a 1743-day streak going, so that's something, I guess.

I'm on a 2-day streak with a total of 2016 XP. Most in German, but some in Russian because I found out the mobile app does something the desktop one doesn't and gives specific lessons to help you learn the Russian alphabet so you can learn how that language forms words before diving right into learning sentences. The desktop Russian course just starts with the basics but if you don't know the alphabet you're basically fucked from the word go.

Obviously such a pace isn't sustainable but I don't want to try and cram too much crap into my brain too fast. Finding out that most of my Years 7-9 German was still lurking in some dark abandoned corner of my mind somewhere certainly helped so far but that's going to run out sooner rather than later. Also gendered nouns can go fuck themselves.

I know, right? :P It's like they just exist to make things difficult. Specifically for foreigners learning the language. :pfft:

It'd be one thing if the genders were the same in all western European languages that have them, but nooooo, of course not; can't make it too easy!

I just don't get it. I get languages evolve over time so it's not like someone decided to make every noun have an arbitrary gender designation, but if languages evolve why would it be so hard to just start standardising stuff so that, rather than needing multiple words for 'a' or 'the' depending on what you're talking about, you just use one? Would it be so hard? People would get used to it.

Avoid the annoying situation where, for example, pizza is feminine, but the cheese on it is masculine and the bread it's made from is gender-neutral because literally none of that makes sense..

Remembering what gender to use for any given thing is going to be the biggest hurdle to learning German, honestly. So many of my failures on Duolingo have been from picking the wrong one because I can't remember. That and forgetting which words have umlauts on them. :P
