What are you thinking at the moment?

Talk about anything and everything.

I was just listening to this song, written and here sung by Rabbi Menachem Creditor, which the cantor and rabbis of my synagogue performed last Yom Kippur. Listening to it comforted and consoled me to some small extent. It also reminded me, somehow, of the first stanza in Coleridge's Love, which I'd very much like to think is true:

All thoughts, all passions, all delights,
Whatever stirs this mortal frame,
All are but ministers of Love,
And feed his sacred flame.

In any case, even though I no longer feel such sorrow as would incline my mind toward ever darker thoughts, I remain saddened by many things in my life—not to mention the unfortunate state of the world, too. I miss my family, immediate and extended—the loving and, at the end of the day, caring relationships I thought I had with many of them. I haven't really talked to my mom in years, and my uncles and aunts haven't talked to me since I tried to kill myself last year. I miss going to synagogue and being able to attend services with far, far greater ease than if I were to try to go nowadays. "I must build this world from love," sings R. Creditor in the song. I can't express how much I'd like to do so; yet doing so seems very difficult when life can be as messy as it is.

How, amidst the complexities of my emotions and desires, and those of others, all combined together with the vagaries of fortune, might I (or anyone else) know how to build this world from love? I don't know. So at present, I suppose all that's left to me is to try, as well as to take what solace I can in thinking of when, perhaps someday far off, the world is brought to fully reflect the love one feels for others, and when in it is realized all the great hopes and desires included in that love.

Anyway, those are my few thoughts!

You need to ground yourself a little more Taggart. Spend all that time with your head in the clouds and your gonna feel detached from the rest of us down here on earth, getting on with the everyday business of living. Sure, it's messy, complicated and fun far less often that is advertised but it's life. It's what you make of it.

It's healthy and good for the "spirit" to contemplate high minded, abstract concepts, but they don't tend to have much real world applicability and serve more as inspiration for action rather than a road map or guarantee.

Maybe, try picking up the phone and calling one of those relatives you havent spoken to in so long and arrange to do something together?

Start with the little things. Fix that which is broken in your own life and worry about building a world out of love or tapioca pudding or what have you, later.

Much later.

The world needs less well intentioned people trying to fix it. Most of the world's problems are the result of well intentioned people trying to fix it.

Have any of you ever noticed the sub r/HilariaBaldwin while browsing reddit? It's this incredibly active hate sub that's obsessed with Alec Baldwin's wife. I've been looking at it for a while and I have no idea why they hate her so much. Most hate subs are populated by misogynistic men who pick a random woman to be the avatar of all their resentment and sexual frustration, but this one is different. It's not political, but I asked some of them what the deal was, and they got pissed. It clearly touches somewhere deep inside their psyches, but they don't even have a delusional political ideology to back it up.

Well what’s to be surprised with there, beside that they target Baldwin’s wife? Aren’t such redditors generally suffering from an excess of anger, so that they’ll lash out at anyone external to the subreddit?

Most redditors who do that are men who are suffering from some kind of psychosexual ennui. Like, they'll obsess over Anita Sarkeesian because feminists are trying to take video games away from them. But this sub seems to be entirely women and there's nothing they claim Hilaria Baldwin did to them personally. They just hate her.

Ah, but my those relatives don’t answer my calls or respond to texts. They’ve ghosted me pretty much.

As for your last mini-paragraph, I suppose we simply differ; since I’m quite optimistic about the world’s future, though not necessarily disagreeing that misguided altruists can be quite a problem.

As for descending from my ivory tower (so to speak), I don’t feel that I can, not to mention that I’m not sure it’s morally permissible. But that’s a long conversation for another time.

Thanks, however, for thinking to take the time to offer some advice.

Oh my! Well that really does surprise me! As you said, it’s usually men you’ll hear about that’ll lash out and complain constantly. But women!?! Shocking!

Two more things. Is her name really Hilaria?? If so, that’s hilarious! :facepalm2:

Also, why the monopoly man for your profile image?

Have you guys read about Madison Cawthorn’s orgies? I wonder if what he lacks in ability to stand he makes up for in pelvic thrusts.
Blow: "Nowadays even Liam can release an album of his screechy vocals and it'll probably go #1..."
Ramzus: I can admit that I'm horny just about 24/7
homomorphism: I used to not think your name was deshay and that Erick was just being racist
Hunter: sometimes I think I was literally born to be a pornstar

A rather low blow, but humorous nonetheless. And yes, I've read about them.

I'm thinking this is exactly the sort of reason I avoid reddit. Sure, some searches take me to a sub and check if it provides the information I'm looking for, but that the extent of my foray into reddit.

I was thinking about how confidence is perceived as sexy and good when people have it. I also wonder what warrants this confidence that some people have. Why are they allowed to feel so confident? What gives them the right to feel this way?

I won’t attack such people because I don’t know the answer to that question. I do have the urge to tear down people who I don’t believe should have this confidence though.

For many people, there's nothing that warrants their confidence and, in fact, I'd venture to say it is downright immoral and a sign of an imperfect character. I'll not go into the basis of my making this judgement, since it rests in technical and complicated areas of virtue ethics; but even so, I will say I'm not making this claim without having spent a great deal of time studying what makes a good or a bad character.

Sounds like the two of you lack confidence and therefore resent those who have it.

You'd do better to work on your own self esteem and sense of self worth, than trying to justify your petty resentments and justifications for wanting to hurt those you envy.

Hey, I never said I actually followed through on it…though I must say that I know someone like you would never have to worry about such things. You are a 5 star man after all.

Ah! But my friend, here is where you are wrong: I’m actually quite confident in the areas in which my confidence is justified, which areas are few—which is to say I’m not overconfident—, and I’m simply not confident in areas where I ought not be.

But I thank you for expressing your concern, for indeed it might’ve been that I did resent those who displayed confidence (or overconfidence, since this is too often mistaken for justified confidence).

Ah I didn’t bother reading your second paragraph. Indeed, I’d not recommend tearing people down and am heartened to know you would not do such a thing, which would be cruel.

None truly deserve cruelty, I think, and most specially not you. Regardless, the punishment of those who are cruel is just that—that they are cruel people. It seems to me that being a bad person is punishment enough for those who acted poorly (though they realize it not, which is also rather pathetic).
