What are you thinking at the moment?

Talk about anything and everything.

Ex'smokers often transfer one oral fixation for another. Sublimating one craving for another. Which can lead from one unhealthy lifestyle choice to another.

Hence my musing, which is worse I wonder? If an individual found themselves wondering, which poison should they pick? Which is the one with the least harm?

When I did smoke and I decided to lose 60 lbs it actually wasn’t that difficult and took about 3 months. I was getting serotonin and dopamine from smoking rather than eating junk food. Ironically when I smoked I was actually even more physically active as I preferred to amble around outside while smoking. The cumulative time spent outside added about 2 extra km of walking per day.

I get that no one's going to hammer someone in recovery (booze, drugs, or sex) about smoking, especially in those first couple of years of recovery.

Also, there's no disagreement about the harm that poor eating habits do but a huge part of the problem is they are still advertised heavily (I assume - since I see virtually no advertising but have not read much about limiting junk food advertising beyond young children).

For me, I don't want to return to a bad habit I've already put behind me, especially not because I've decided another habit needs to go. I just want to move forward, try to do better, always seek to improve, when I see something is having a negative affect on my life. Hope that makes sense.

Wouldn't bug anyone who's given up smoking for having a cigarette, but I certainly wouldn't hand them a pack or carton.

My husband brought up something interesting when I spoke to him about it. He suggested it’s not so much the smoking as the desire for a past comfort. It is true that I have been doing a lot of reminiscing about the past lately. I don’t think things are as good for me now as they were, but I don’t think there’s anything I can do about it.

No, neither would I. That wasn't what i was doing. And your heroine comparison was pure exaggerative nonsense.

There could be a lot of truth to that. You remember when, in times past you gave up? Only to start again? If you were like me, you probably regretted it quickly (because oh god that first cigarette makes you feel sick) but because the downsides come rushing back much more quickly than the positives. Indeed before long you remember why you gave up in the first place, but you've blown up all that progress so you carry on.

Nostalgia can be dangerous.

As I said before, the fight never ends. Those cravings stay with us.

I didn't say I thought you were.

Your critique has been noted. Your critique is also "pure exaggerative nonsense."

I wish Derek is watching the Grammys so he can witness all the Ukrainian pandering and special appearances by refugees reciting poetry.

Sigh. Why are alpha hyper masculine males so routinely attacked?

And my name spelling isn’t retarded. It’s spelled that way to assert dominance.

I don’t consider ‘Captain Planet’ an invincible superhero because I don’t really consider him an actual character in the cartoon. He was just a weapon the planeteers summoned and it takes all 5 planeteers to summon him. :P

I forgot to follow up with your journey but did you end up losing all the weight?

I gained about 35 pounds and then lost about 12. I need to start gaining and working out again but I've been too lazy.
