If it makes you feel better, this suburb doesn't have a single Panera or Boba Tea. You'd probably starve within a week.

So I think: I hope everyone's been fine in the meantime and you guys enjoy life!

I have to retcon the history of a kingdom in my game because it being evil makes zero geographical sense. It’s bordered by two more powerful non-evil world powers, so there’s no way they wouldn’t smack this evil land down if it even tried anything. It’s also largely coastal which means it’ll have a lot of diverse people going through it by sea.

I never thought about crap like this when I was younger. :glasses:

Nah, just I haven't, although I love tea of a certain variety, and everything not made in Germany comes from Taiwan, too. It's fun to discover new things I haven't come across at any time. I'm one of these back bush dwellers, to note. We have the woodland barrier. :D

Iron Curtain, well that's to be feared a bit. Some people start to believe, Mr. Putin likes to restart the USSR 2.0 or something, and for Germany, the right wing movement tends to become scary once again. So, never know. Need some Valerian tea now.

So on the topic of the Santa Clarita school shooting, there’s no apparent motive but people are already speculating and one thing they’re bringing up is mental health, which is unsurprising. But are our mental health stats really that disproportionate to the rest of the world? Or our resources to help them? I blame the movie Joker for making people believe they suddenly have great insight into the dark world of rampage shooters.

Anyone else consider military recruiting at schools akin to grooming? I just saw a news piece of a middle school aged kid who had been shot at in school was part of some military program. Possibly ROTC. Honestly, how is that not fucked up? How do they rationalize that they’re old enough to make a decision of possibly going to war once they turn 18?

The point being, and somewhat valid, the ROTC programs enable early access (before 18) to indoctrinate impressional youth. While I so support that avenue (military) for those that willingly choose it, it does create a possible situation to enable abusive manipulation.

Are you however watching the current impeachment proceedings. Watching the testimony of the Lt Col? Example of a pretty brave person. If he as a teen had been in ROTC, would we envisioned that a bad thing knowing the outcome to this date.

It is also pretty easy to always point out a bad result and then pin it on something you personally have disdain for. You go from "possibility" to totally fuck up. It's equivalent to saying since there are cases of sexual abuse in churches, therefore all religion is inherently evil. After all, religion is generally given access to youth and can clearly be accused of indoctrination.

Well my criticism is independent of whether or not they get sent to war. My point is simply that they’re too young to be making those sorts of decisions that may involve life or death situations and having these recruiters on school grounds is distasteful and immoral. I know how they operate. I remember being a teen and having these vultures try to goad me into enlisting by appealing to masculine fragility and economic hardship/independence (“Oh so you’re going to college. And who’s going to pay for that, hmm?”). They have no business entering K-12 school grounds to recruit.

Decisions like these shouldn’t be made on anecdotal and highly selective grounds.

Oh hell yes I do! But then I recognize that attitude as highly biased on my part. But if you were to suggest to take any of the abusive shits that call themselves devout but commit rape on children, a proper punishment would be in the old Roman Catholic way of tying them to a stake, dipping them in oil and lighting them on fire. <- I'd be first in line with my lighter. Also all people who use religion to carry out their homophobic agenda, I'd light their asses on fire too.

I think I've been clear on my stance about religion since day one here. Fortunately my rather biased opinion is also a correct one.

So if you're comfortable declaring religion inherently evil, why not condemn the indoctrination of kids into religion? And if you're comfortable condemning the indoctrination of kids into religion, why not condemn their conscription into the military, an organization that arguably wreaks much greater harm?

Again, I’m not basing my criticism on any anecdotes. It’s inappropriate regardless of what happens to them in life. They’re too young to be making those kinds of decisions. I don’t know what the insistence is that they be recruited that young. Let them be.

Militaries are not inherently harmful. They are absolutely necessary for defence. Surely the issue of teen recruitment should be separate from whether the US military, or any particular military, is good or bad, and should be considered for an idealised military.
