In my native culture, Christmas is a religious thing where people go to church. It is typical to put up a tree and some lights/wreaths, though, and there is a gift-giving holiday of questionable racial sensitivity earlier in December whence other cultures' Christmas gift-giving traditions derive, for which my mom typically sends a box of tasty gifts to me and Brenden in Scotland in late November. :keke:

This year, though, we're very carefully (N95 masks etc.) seeing all four of Brenden's (step)parents in the US in the leadup to Christmas and spending Christmas and New Year with our boyfriend in Maryland, who would otherwise be spending the holidays alone for the first time in his life due to the pandemic. :3

All three of us are completely avoiding the big family gatherings super-spreader events at Christmas.

Movies? Well, I’m not sure it’s been on yet, it just doesn’t feel like Christmas until Hans Gruber falls from the Nakatomi Tower.

Songs? I’ll throw you Everyday is Christmas, Sia’s 2017 Christmas album.

Food? Mince pies, my favourite food year round, you can only really get the this time of year. So I capitalise. And stollen. I’m a big dried fruit and spices fan.

Traditions? The family has a rather disgustingly kitsch sequin waistcoat that has been handed gown the generations from my grandparents, I’m rather fond of it.

Yes! My favourite time of the year.

I will be having an extended family one as so long Covid rules don’t change. We are allowed to mix with 3 households indoors so we’ll be using our full quota :)

Movies - anything that the tv throws up. I like them all from the cartoon type to the blockbuster movies. I even have a soft spot for the Sound of Music which is not a typical Christmas movie but always comes on this time of year.

Food - I normally raid the marks and spencer food section for newly discovered deserts. Mince pies of course has to be on the menu. I’m not a fan of turkey so we normally have a range of different meats, beef, lamb, chicken so everyone has an option. Mulled wine is a must for me also.

Songs - the classics. Wham, Mariah Carey. All the cheesy ones has to be playing in the background.

Traditions - the usual ugliest Christmas jumper is something we do every year. I have mine ready to reveal.

I’ll be asleep by 9pm fully stuffed and content. :D

Not including any elderly people I hope! Regardless of what the government is allowing in order to increase its popularity, big Christmas gatherings seem quite unwise at this time.

Yup, old and young will be attending but fortunately all the older folks have already had, or are booked in to have the pfizer vaccine tomorrow.

Christmas for us is normally a much larger gathering. This year is a slimmed down version for obvious reasons.

I hate to say this, but I'm pretty sure it takes *weeks* after the *second* shot for substantial immunity to develop. :runaway:

They will be at very serious risk attending any gathering like this.

Movies: Hmm. I don’t really care for Xmas movies, but I do enjoy watching Helix Studios’ Merry Twinkmas and this video by Staxus. They’re angels. 🥺

Songs: I’M GLAD YOU ASKED! :awesome: After shopping yesterday for last minute gifts, I heard Only Thing I Ever Get For Christmas by Bieber booming from the speakers. Needless to say it got me into the Christmas cheer.

Foods: I’ve been drinking a few holiday sugary monstrosities from Starbucks but other than that nothing yet. My parents always makes their regional Christmas cuisine and I’ll be bringing several pies. I’ve been trying to find mince pies but haven’t been able to locate any place that’s doing them. :( Oh, and I’ve been imbibing some rompope! If you can find it where you live, try some if you’ve never had it. It has almost the same alcohol content as tequila but you can’t detect it because it’s so sweet. :D

Traditions: I’m not the traditional type and neither is my family. I kinda wish we had something corny that was passed down generationally, like ugly Christmas sweaters.
Blow: "Nowadays even Liam can release an album of his screechy vocals and it'll probably go #1..."
Ramzus: I can admit that I'm horny just about 24/7
homomorphism: I used to not think your name was deshay and that Erick was just being racist
Hunter: sometimes I think I was literally born to be a pornstar

Yeah, immunity doesn’t begin to manifest until 12-14 days after the first dose, a second dose is needed at 28 days and full effectiveness isn’t reached until 5-7 days after.

If you’re resting Christmas on the vaccine, you may celebrate Christmas from 15th January 2021 onwards.

Zwarte Piet? :awesome: I get so much joy bringing him up every year.

Tell us the status of the holiday. I’m sure the controversy has been raised again by activists this year. Any protests? Any further defensiveness by your family?

Nice to see you are all getting in the Christmas mood!

I took this picture yesterday. I really like the Christmas lights in one of the towns near me. I know they're just simple white lights but they're pretty :)

Yeah, the doctors said that also.

I’m probably giving the impression 3 households = a lot of people but the reality is it’s my parents who live alone, my brother/wife and his kids who have been shielding due to asthma and then me and my brother who’s been staying at my place and we have been equally careful as I have been taking care of my parents during the pandemic so we have formed a decent bubble, enough for us to still have a nice Christmas together.

I'm not doing shit. I'm making my preferred holiday cocktail of eggnog, rum, and cinnamon liqueur, but that's it.

Shouldn’t eggnog already have rum in it?

My stepdad's mom it from southern Italy and every christmas eve they have what you would call "feast of seven fishes". It's pretty much getting different types of fish and fry and cook them for christmas. I don't care much for the fish though... but last time they had scallops and god damn they're delicious.

Brandy and whiskey are fine choices, as well. Freshly grated nutmeg for the win.

I am spending the holidays alone and not for the first time. I don't mind at all. I got burned out on the holidays years ago. So much effort and I wasn't even enjoying it. If I had kids or a family I was close to, I might do it for them.
