Eventually when the pandemic has subsided and our boyfriend is okay with travelling and seeing people.

They already know about him and have seen photos of us together; we talk about him all the time.

It's odd to see someone whose family is apparently just so totally chill with the 'two boyfriends' deal. Well, husband and boyfriend deal.

I think my mum would die of shock if I ever brought home one bloke, if I turned up with two at once I think she'd spontaneously combust due to her brain overheating trying to work it out to herself.

She didn't get it at first when we told her over the phone, but she quickly warmed up to the idea, especially after seeing some photos of us being happy together. I showed her a photo of Brenden and the boyfriend napping in each other's arms and she agreed they were adorable together. :3

Aside from politics I've realised she's actually got a few things in common with him. For example, they both love Christmas and keep some Christmas decorations out all year. I showed her some photos of his year-round Christmas decorations. She said "Oh, I like this guy!" :)

It is pretty cool how she's embraced the whole poly thing just like my family has. She's just happy for us and excited to meet him someday and potentially have him as part of the family. :keke:

(My family was immediately supportive and happy for us when I sent a long WhatsApp message explaining it all.)

I don't think my family would like it. They'd be polite about it, but they wouldn't get it. Or maybe they'd be happy I was bringing home any number of guys. Hard to say. Personally I go back and forth on whether monogamy is too many.

I'll be spending Thanksgiving with my mother and her partner. I think we'll have an easier time getting along now that we can all just shit on Biden instead of arguing about Trump.

My fantasy Thanksgiving announcement would be to tell my parents I’m banging my hot cousins and that we’re making a living off OnlyFans. They wouldn’t get it though. They’re not white like Derek’s parents.

My guess: in general, I could imagine that it might be easier for some parents to accept a polyamorous relationship than it was initially to accept my child is gay!.

I've sometimes thought that if my father were alive, we might have a nice chat about how terrible Obama was...

Although, sadly, his view of Obama was probably too far left. And my view is too far right.

As Oscar Wilde said I've heard this: “Bigamy is having one wife too many. Monogamy is the same.”

(One can substitute husband/boyfriend/partner for wife.)

I remember the quote as “Bigamy is having one wife too many. Monogamy is much the same.”

Not that it much matters. :P

I just did some research, and it appears this "monogamy" quote might not have been something Wilde said or wrote. And there appear to be variants (e.g., use of husband instead of wife).

(I edited my post above to reflect these new findings.)

Just a few! One reindeer and a miniature Christmas village in his living room (he insists the latter is "in storage", but it just so happens the storage location is a visible place in the living room ), and a synthetic mini-tree with pretty white lights in his bedroom.

Trust me, it's all adorable and just adds to his charm. :3

Why not keep decorations up all year? It saves time decorating each December!

I have some Christmas stuff that stays out year round--although it's small items. And it's probably a mix of laziness and lack of good storage solutions.

Meanwhile, I really haven't done any real decorating in years. And one item that is out year round is a small ceramic tree that I may not have even had the energy to bother turning on in at least a couple of years... It's hard getting any enthusiasm for Christmas the best of years. I can hardly wait to find out how hellish this year will be--I'm pretty isolated most years, but at least most years I have some events to go to. That won't be happening this year.

Oh good god John, no.

Besides, surely it deprives Christmas of that special occasion feeling. If it becomes part of the everyday?

Mine don't go up until 2 weeks before the event and they come down new years day, used to be my hangover activity, since I'm less exciting these days, it just feels like a nice little ritual to symbolise a new beginning.

Then, I've heard of people with artificial trees that they just stuff fully decorated into storage each year. The tree is all ready to go when pulled out the next December.

Why don’t you leave Halloween and Thanksgiving decorations up too? That way every day can be Spooky Christmas Turkey Day at your house and you need never pain yourself with the ordeal of putting tinsel into a box

No, I think further work is needed on the branding of your own year-round holiday to avoid tidying up. Whilst I will admit that Spooky Christmas Turkey Day is equally flawed, with Turkey as associated with Christmas as it is Thanksgiving (despite the fact that I would never cook it for a Christmas dinner if left in charge myself). “HallowThanksMas” lacks a little polish for me.
