What made you laugh today?

This mf scared me shitless when I was a kid. So badly that I wouldn't watch the Moomins again, and so didn't get to see the later episode when it turns out the Groke is just misunderstood and only wants a hug or something.

I can't even remember how I got to Moomins. I've never seen anything to do with it before and was only vaguely aware of what it even was. But I started stumbling onto stuff like this and now I think this show seems oddly hilarious and want to watch all of it.

Re: What made you laugh today?
I love the Moomins
The books are gorgeous. I read the illustrated shorter stories to my class all the time and they’re transfixed.
The longer stories like Comet in Moominland or Moominsummer Madness are so sweet. Full of melancholy, magic, sadness, innocence, etc. My Moomin collection is one of my favourite sections on my bookshelf.
If I’m ever struggling to sleep like those nights you’ve got too much going around in your head, 15 minutes of the Moomins and I’ll be calm enough to drift off!

I never knew the Moomins were such a huge cultural thing before yesterday.

I’ve been aware of the Moomins, but I’ve never engaged. I always just assumed they were a family of anthropomorphic hippos called the Moomins. Like, Mick and Shiela Moomin and their kids.

The new series on Sky really helped rekindle appreciation in the U.K.
It’s always been popular in Finland (understandably) and it’s big in Asia, too. I may or may not have won a giant cuddly hattifattener on a UFO catcher in Japan which now lives on my bed...
I really recommend reading the books. I think you can even find a free pdf version of “The Moomins and the Great Flood” online which is the shortest of the stories. “Comet in Moominland” is only £2.50 for the eBook and wouldn’t take you long to read.

Also, when non-essential shops open, head down to Waterstones (which has a surprising collection of Moomin stuff) and flick through “Moomin: The Complete Tove Jansson Comic Strip” (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Moomin-Complet ... 1894937805) for a good chuckle.

I know there are at least like two whole shops in London that are specifically dedicated to just Moomins. I've seen them in passing and remember being vaguely aware of what the Moomins are but I can't recall having any interaction with them even in my childhood. And I watched a lot of really random weird crap as a kid, I'm kind of amazed that apparently Moomins weren't part of it.

I love that I've just caused a random thread derailment into a conversation about the fucking Moomins of all things.

I don't even know what to say... But, honestly, "Shia surprise," needs to become a thing people say.

You're up quite late! For some reason, I figured pretty much everyone on the forum had gone to bed already. Still, while I'm on here it's kind of nice to know I'm not walking through a ghost town (so to speak).

I want to believe all white chicks keep their combs in their kitchen drawers and place their shampoo bottles next to their soy sauce.

How I know I'm a really weird nerd: Amazon is now recommending me life-size Doctor Who cardboard cutouts.
