Mary told me that how my sleep schedule works is far beyond her and her pay-grade.

Apparently a guy was hitting on me last weekend but I didn't realise because I wasn't familiar with the expression "a tall glass of water" and didn't catch the other signs at the time. :P

The amount of phone time I had this week went up to eight hours per day. That’s what happens when you can do pretty much nothing else due to injury.

My parents, hardcore Conservative voters and defenders of Boris Johnson, left for their two-week holiday literally about an hour before the news that he was resigning dropped. And that's hilarious. Cause they'll be out of contact for two weeks and will get home to find out the PM they love so much has been turfed the fuck out.

In RPGs (role-playing video games), you typically face random battles while walking around various areas. They're typically set up so that as you progress through the game and grow stronger (level up), you face stronger and stronger opponents (as battle experience yields diminishing returns otherwise). You're typically prevented from doing things out of the intended sequence of events, but if you do end up in an area you're not meant to have reached yet (for example because you went off to explore the map rather than following the cues in the story), you may face enemies far stronger than you're currently capable of defeating. (Which can itself be a deterrent to going out of sequence.) Therein lies the humour.

I hope that makes sense.

Oh Rene, yes, it does make sense, and you're also a complete nerd.

By the way, just out of curiosity, do you have anything against burning incense?

Yes, I think it smells bad, it gives me a headache, and, as with burning most things, it releases toxic chemicals which are known to cause cancer. One study found incense smoke is even more genotoxic (likely cancer-inducing) than cigarette smoke. So obviously I don't want it anywhere near me.

How did I know you'd hate incense?? I suppose I'm psychic!

You take all the fun from life sometimes, Rene! Why not indulge a bit and shave some years off this godforsaken life? Oh, I guess I'm a rather terrible influence, aren't I?

From season 4, episode 7 of Marvelous Mrs. Masiel.

Abe: "The little one, Rose, the little one!'

Rose: "What little one?"

Abe: "The tiny Jewish one, Moloch in pearls!"

I just can't get over him describing the Jewish matchmaking lady as "Moloch in pearls."

Normally I would have accepted, but sadly we had to tell her there was no room left in our suitcases.

Very reckless. You’re on a grand voyage, you never know when you may need goods to barter to get yourself out of a sticky situation.
