But you don’t see the distinction I’m making between butt-n or buh-n and budden? Because I looked up audio clips of t-glottalization and the way button would be pronounced is different. When I get home I’ll see if I can post clips so you can see what I’m getting at.

I know what you mean, pooler. I actually find it endearing in some guys — as long as I don't hear it too often. You hear it in certain accents in most words with double T's: button, bottle, little, etc. Instead of the tip of the tongue hitting the roof of the mouth to make the T sound, it comes from the back of the throat. I'm sure there is a word for it. I suggest you avoid Essex.

T-glottaling, if I understand correctly, the word “button” sounds like butt-n but Klein (Editor-at-Large at Vox) pronounces it like budden — sorry, it’s been years since I learned IPA so I don’t remember how to use the proper symbols. It’s very different and very annoying. I’ll try to find a Vox video of him speaking.

Budden seems to me like the typical American pronunciation of button :P

In t-glottalisation, the phoneme /t/ is actually replaced by a glottal stop, not just followed by it. So roughly speaking, at least from my foreign perspective, water (normally woh turr in Received Pronunciation) becomes woh 'urr, butter (normally buhh turr) becomes bah 'urr, getting better (normally get ting bet turr) becomes geh 'ing (or geh 'ihn as the case may be) beh 'urr. It isn't (normally it izzunt) becomes i'iz'uhn', and so on.

Only a small group of americans speak like that. Most pronounce the words just like the dictionary would show how the words are pronounced. It'd be unusual to leave out the T. Some small areas are prone to specific accents like that but most arent. And while we understand it its more a very specific group talking like that. But most of America speaks exactly like the dictionary will show.

Oh work pisses me off. I have only 1 more 10 hour day until im off for a week. I totally need it.
I was actually gonna ask if i could come in. Monday and Friday. But i'm fine with not working. This month has been brutal on me

Oh wow, that majorly sucks. Are you alright?

Did you call the police? Try to get a photo of them? Throw some rocks back at their noses?

I feel like I would be so mad I wouldn't be able to resist the urge to punch whoever might have done it in the face. But obviously better to gather evidence if possible and let authorities handle it.

I'm okay, didn't hurt too much physically but it did have a bit of a impact mentally, I don't take things like this well.

Apparently there has been a load of issues of rocks/bricks being thrown my area especially at cars and windows.

You'd think FedEx drivers would be experts at delivering packages, but you would be wrong. Apparently, the one that has my package today is new to the concept of delivering to an apartment complex where you need to call the resident using an intercom so they can push a button that opens the gate for you and instead just reported "Customer not available or business closed". :pfft:

I had a Fex Ex guy leave a "Customer not available" note recently because I wasn't at home at 2pm on a Wednesday. I had to call them to instruct them to just fucking leave it at the office.

Ewww. I just found out Nash Grier had a son a few months ago. He’s a father! Nash Grier. This is all the proof one needs that we live in a godless universe.

Besides, how do you get away with that while keeping your job? So many people live in apartment buildings; you can't just skip all those deliveries.

Alright, so it's definitely not just the driver. There is something very structurally wrong within this company.

Yesterday, the nice Indian man I spoke to on the phone assured me the package would be delivered today and that he had added specific delivery instructions to either call me on the intercom or phone me on either of two phone numbers I provided so there would be no more misunderstanding about how to reach me. The day came and went; no package or call of any kind. I then called them again, and the nice Indian lady I spoke to this time said she was escalating the case for me and the driver would be spoken to and asked what happened and that I would definitely hear back today on my mobile number (which she read back to me so I know they had it right). You guessed it...no package and no call-back. :flame:

This is a company that seems to promise stuff without having any kind of system to ensure that someone in the company actually ends up making it happen.

The sad thing is that they're really good at moving stuff between countries. They took less than 24 hours to get my package from Tempe, Arizona to British customs at London Stansted on Christmas Eve. British customs took 0 minutes to clear the package for entry. That was a week ago (including Christmas but also 3 working days plus a weekend) and the package has now been sitting in a place less than 10 miles from my home (but unreachable without a car) for 5 days (including those 3 working days + the weekend).

I guess this is my last time using FedEx.

FedEx in most of Europe as far as I know is just a rebranding of the former TNT. At least here they repainted most of the TNT vans into FedEx. Before then I had to deal with some weird company that was doing local deliveries for them. They had me pay some "freight holding fee" and weird shit in addition to customs duties.

So yes, no matter what they are - old TNT or actual FedEx... both are horrible companies when it comes to delivering shit around Europe.

Oh, I've had my own horrible experiences with TNT, with them twice claiming a package I'd sent was much bigger than I'd paid for and trying to extract more money from me...months later. And each time they also had a peek inside the package and resealed it with an "Opened and resealed by TNT security" sticker. They apparently didn't care that I was shipping unprescribed medication to my dad, which they technically don't allow, but that was also annoying as I'm not used to having my packages opened and searched.

Justin just released the worst song from his upcoming album. His Purpose Album had some fillers in there that were whatever but at least he and his team had the good sense not to lead with them when enticing others to listen. How do you go from “you give me purpose” (2015) to “that yummy yummy” (2020)?!

Another day, another imaginary delivery attempt and another missed callback. At this point we just gave up (particularly since FedEx takes every weekend off so we'd have had to wait for at least 3 more days) and took the train + a taxi and fetched the package ourselves from the depot. The man there, in typical Scottish fashion, was by far the nicest and most sympathetic FedEx employee we've dealt with and he seemed genuinely sorry for all the inconvenience and said it definitely shouldn't have happened and that we should contact the seller about getting a refund from FedEx in the US for the shipping costs so that we could then get reimbursed by them for the expedited shipping. :)

My friend I moto with the most, when riding trail his dad goes most of the times as well. Unfortunately his dad for some reason I guess assumes we are friends by extension. Even more unfortunately he has taken to explaining to me that unless I truly believe in God/Jesus I'll not make it to heaven... This has now occurred on three occasions and while I've managed to keep my typical reaction to such at bay it's becoming clear to me that is not viable long term. So even now I'm thinking I'd rather just avoid the trail stuff and if I only see him at the track that may just have to be the way things are. I can always ride trail and if I bump into them, that's find too. But there's an OHV park closer to where I live and I go there a lot too. My friend warned me about it. I had let him know that it did indeed occur. I think we are both going down this part with an understanding of the situation. Could have been worse - I could have just exploded like normal.
