I don’t really see how that’s a point against those things. It’s like if a country, due to wacky beliefs, forced people to undergo face transplants. Should we now ban them because psychopaths exist?

I just think it fits in the pattern of homophobia amongst transgender acceptance.

It also dispels the (understandable, but false) notion that nobody is compelled into sex reassignment and shows that it can indeed be directly analogous to forced gay conversion therapy in this way.

The situation in Iran was documented quite well in a 2014 BBC News article:

The gay people pushed to change their gender - BBC News

I recommend reading it in full.

How heartbreaking to learn that this still goes on.

I suppose what I should have said, to be clearer, is that: I believe that "nobody (or next to nobody) is now forcibly compelled into such procedures in the UK". Whilst the stories highlighted in the article here absolutely show that sex reassignment surgeries can be advocated for from homophobic premises, I'm struggling to see why one must necessarily generalise from these specific circumstances to suggest that all advocates for increasing access to SRSs are operating from implicit homophobia?

I might be getting the wrong end of the stick, though. The debate is getting away from me.

When Brenden talked about homophobia among transgender acceptance, I'm pretty sure he didn't mean it's pervasive across all advocates for increasing access to SRSs. More just that it occurs when you look around the world and is exemplified by "LGBT" advocacy groups (including UK-based ones like Pink News) and that it bothers him.

Ah, understood! Apologies, I find it a bit difficult to follow arguments in this medium. The issues you raised are, of course, concerning.

Always assumed that Pink News was US based. Huh.

The sales guy I work with is incapable of joining a 3rd person to a phone conversation. why - because he's too busy screwing off all the time. I'm also making a point of it by not doing it for him.

What’s the device?

A Garmin eTrex 10 handheld GNSS receiver (which I see has gone up for £83 to £90 now on Amazon). I can upload GPX waypoints to it to follow when I'm hillwalking and it can log my GPS tracks and upload to my favourite app Fog of World. It should have much better reception than my iPhone X, which is really shitty (as are most recent smartphones). Plus it's waterproof, which after my recent drenched hillwalk proves, is very important for outdoor activities here in Scotland.

This turned out to be a huge disappointment.

Not only does the screen have a line of dead pixels, it is severely scuffed, making it almost unusable! I specifically asked the seller before bidding whether the screen had any issues, because the photo wasn't very clear, and he replied: "There’s nothing wrong with the display, it’s slightly scratched but that’s about it."

A HUGE SCUFF MARK IS NOT "SLIGHTLY SCRATCHED" AND A LINE OF DEAD PIXELS IS NOT "NOTHING WRONG WITH THE DISPLAY". :flame:

So now I have to go through the hassle of returning it, and there currently isn't another used one available to bid on, whereas on the day I won the auction there was another, better listing for the device that was just a few pounds more. :(

Ah yes, the joys of ebay. Just as with retro computers where “untested” usually means not working.
