Also not a great fan of fireworks. The only time I've been to a firework show and thought it was kind of alright was one set to several James Bond theme tunes. Music was cool.

Actually, I think I might only have went to that because I was trying it on with some guy I was presumably madly infatuated with. Must have snubbed me. Yeah, fireworks are shit.

Relevant: Was on a zoom meeting tonight, and someone's dog was going nuts the entire time. Couldn't even put him out of the room, since he'd panic and die, or something.

I love seeing nice well-coordinated firework shows. I just don't like hearing them. They need to invent a silent version. That would be amazing.

I will gladly join in on the hate-conga against fireworks.

Intolerable noisy pointless fucking devices.

As a kid, I was lucky enough to see this huge themed fireworks display, based on the war of the worlds, complete with fake tanks that exploded into flames, a giant tripod thing and laser lights all over, the signature music was accompanied by chest pounding ground based charges, that sent turf flying through the air when they exploded. Fireworks went off for what felt like ages and the tripod eventually lept into flames with sparklers and.. well... it was genuinely one of the most incredible experiences of fireworks I've ever had.

That said, nothing since has been able to compare :P

I find any other displays to be super underwhelming.

So I join with the coalition of limeys against fireworks.

Unless your doing something spectacular. Don't bother. :pfft:

I was very impressed by Disney World's various nightly fireworks displays.

London's NYE fireworks have been pretty underwhelming the last few years.

I'd say plenty of fireworks displays are still worth attending. Just be sure to wear ear plugs. :D

I misread that as “fat-free-and-a-half” and really tried to figure out how something could be 150% fat-free.

Current events going in the USA, predominantly certain baseless claims by a certain hopefully-soon-to-be-former President, has really exposed how many of my 'friends' on Facebook are actually, beneath all the inoffensive memes and pictures of their kids, rampant right-wing conspiracy theorist morons of true QAnon-level batshit.

I've been looking forward to rubbing the election results in my mom's face all week, but the universe has deprived me of even that. She's been taking care of my very sick grandfather who just got released from the hospital. Get this - on his second to last day, he tested positive for covid. And then they called to tell my mom this two days later, after she and my aunt had spent time getting him home and making arrangements. Now my mom is stuck in quarantine with him, and because he tested positive, the home care nurse they had lined up can't come - and half a dozen other people were exposed, too. This country, man.

Sorry to hear that. Wishing them a speedy recovery so you can get back to haranguing. Also:

We're shitting the bed somewhat over here, too. Heard from a colleague that a friend of theirs started developing symptoms and asked for a COVID test. Didn't receive any word back for five days. After querying whether they'd receive a test kit, they were informed that; since five days had passed, they had better just continue to isolate for the full two weeks, and they weren't going to bother getting them tested.

A too commonly reported occurrence. Just a litany of problems with this system. That's what you get when you privatise and outsource fucking everything, I suppose. Lose much of your ability to command and control in a crisis situation. And further to this, one might now be inclined to wonder: what is the UK government actually for? Maintaining vital infrastructure? No* Keeping the countries borders secure? Nope. Ensuring that justice is served? Negative. Maintaining the health of the nation? Think again, bucko.

Not me, of course. I'd never go down that line of questioning. Anyway, we're trialling mass testing now. Let's hope it proves more effective.

*Do note that Mr. McDonell is an actual filthy socialist.

I totally agree that privatisation of essential services is disastrous and the UK in particular is one of the only countries that has effectively lost control of its most basic utilities.

District court / Edit: Even was a higher Administrative Court 's decision) of Leipzig allowed 16000 people to meet for a Corona denier demonstration downtown and the police just was allowed as much as to look on. Of course, more of those people showed up, about 20 000. Hardly anyone wore face protection.

I don't understand this. Irresposibility challenge, or how to name this. The death toll already is climbing, numbers of infected climb around the 17000 to 20 000 new cases a day, and these idiots just don't give a fuck.

There is no such thing as common sense. Human intelligence. Swarm intelligence. Sense of reason!

They hate the police if they interfer and use a tad of force to get people to keep distance and wear face masks.
Now they hate the police for this time not doing so, for paying respect to their idea of freedom.
They hate the police for the sake of hate or whatever.

This is bad. I guess the death toll will rise in 2 weeks from now.

There’s body positivity and then there’s Lizzo.

Good Grief ... uhm, I was going to say, she's got cool hair. That 'body positivity' trend clearly missed some WHO standarts by norwegian miles

(5 norwegian miles equal about 50 usual miles )

I'm not skinny but according to BMI charts online I'm between the overweight to obese range. I'm basically the smaller side of fat(obese). As far as body positivity it's nice seeing people confident enough to wear whatever size they are even if it's something I'd never wear myself no matter what size I am.
