What pissed you off and made you lose your faith in humanity today?

Talk about anything and everything.

Have you tried Googling his name/location for any news? Is there no way you can contact a relative?

Two of my close friends in Japan took their own lives within a year of each other. Both men under 30. Both wonderful human beings. Mental health awareness/support for adult men is criminally neglected, especially since it is the biggest cause of death for men under 45. Just tragic.

I’ve been looking at obituary postings, so far no mention.

Learning that 3 years ago, in Pennsylvania, there were over 1,000 cases of molestation done to little boys, by grown ass Priests. It's bad enough that the Catholic Church is a cult to begin with, but hiding over 1,000 cases of molestation is EXTREMELY uncalled for! That's like 80% of the population of the small town I live in. That's fucking sick! I'm sorry that I cussed, cause I know that makes me sound unintelligent, but, the fact that we, as human beings, are capable of ruining that many lives, it literally causes chills up my spine.
Here's an example of the Universe trying to tell you that you need healing in an area of your life:

Someone who struggles with showing emotion. This person, in their lifetime, will constantly struggle with this, and that is because, they choose to ignore or disregard the fact that they have trouble showing emotion. Most people will ignore this issue, and will continue to fracture themselves. And this goes with pretty much any problem that happens in your life that is recurring. Don't pass up an opportunity to make you "whole" again.

My university planning and qualification is all fucked up and I was just told that a module I already took won't count toward my degree, even though I specifically choose my qualification last year on the phone with an advisor with the express understanding that the module would count.

So now I'm even further behind than I thought and I feel stuck with a choice I made with false information which now is not ideal for what I want to do career-wise.

Ugh.

On the day after International Women’s Day, a group of feminist extremists in Mexico City decided to protest violence against women in the country by setting on fire...female police officers.

So very grim! Sorry to have put you in that position. But as Mark Twain stated, "the reports of my death are grossly exaggerated."

I ended up missing the tournament because I was in the hospital. I wasn't happy to have utterly nothing to show for the $100 I gave up for the entrance fee.

My father, while on a phone call with me, told me I need to "get over" my mental illnesses and "stop bitching" all the time to him (i.e. ask him for help/support, or just talk about my depression). He told me talking to his parents about financial support (for me) was too much to ask of him. And as if all of this wasn't enough, he told me that I think everyone else around me just does everything wrong and that I believe I never do anything wrong. All this less than a month after I tried to commit suicide and barely two weeks after I left the psychiatric unit at the hospital, found myself homeless, and was forced to move in with my best friend's mom and brother. And get this, he told me he was trying his best to be supportive and I (somehow!) just wasn't open to his help! Oh and while I was still in the hospital and trying to figure out where I was going to be living when I got out, I requested he call his parents and ask if I could live with them for a bit. A couple days later he told me he'd asked and the answer was a "resounding no." Turns out, he'd never even asked them! He also lied to me again today about another thing relating to them, and furthermore he told me they were "pissed" at me when in fact they're not at all.

That wasn't a helpful conversation...

Re: What pissed you off and made you lose your faith in humanity today

Unread postby McTaggartfan » 6 April 2021, 02:00

I'll be as brief as I can here. Basically, I sent my aunt an email detailing how I was appalled by the speech she gave me when she picked me up from the hospital, telling me "I'd made bad choice this year," "had gone off my meds" (because I'd still tried to kill myself at the dosage of lithium I was taking, so it clearly did nothing for my depression), and how she disapproved of my decisions. I told her how uncomfortable and disgusted I was that she insisted on following me into my grandparent's house to pick up my phone, some clothes, etc., and how ridiculous it was that she insisted on following me into each and every single room I went into. I shared with her how the National Suicide Prevention Council published a 22-page booklet detailing, amongst other things, a list of things not to do when a family member has recently attempted suicide—two of which, as I showed her, were:

1. Do not "hover and monitor every action of the loved one, never allowing him or her a minute to themselves."
2. Do not "blame the family member who made the attempt."

I shared with her how I felt about the fact that she constantly defends my father's words, actions, and character, despite all the things he's said to me in the past, and how he's discouraged me from talking to him about my depression, saying (just two weeks after my suicide attempt) that "It's hard to help you when all you do is bitch. Honestly dude, just stop bitching." I also shared with her about how my father had lied to me on numerous occasions about things he'd supposedly heard other family members say about me. (I mean, just look at my post on here that's two posts above this one) And I shared a host of other things with her. I told her how disappointed I was in her actions and how angry I was at her defending my father's disgusting ableist (he's quite frankly told me, explicitly, that he doesn't believe mental illness is real and that it only has to do with a person's character).

What was her response to my 2-page long email, you might wonder? Well, it was exactly this:

"I am thinking of you Nicholas and am sorry you are feeling in such a bad place. I neither blame you for your suicide attempt nor minimize your mental illness. I hope that you can one day see how much your family cares about and wants to support you. It is not always easy when you say hateful and untrue things but we all still care. Please take care and know that I love you."

I don't even know what to think. Am I just crazy, deluded, or insane? I've no clue what I said that was "hateful and untrue," nor do I see how (e.g.) my father cares about me and wants to support me. It's also not helpful to simply say to me, basically, this: "I didn't do what you say I did." I mean, I'm directly telling her she did exactly what she denies—namely, that she blamed me for me attempt and hospitalization, as well as that she shamed me for my depression, and ignored my protestations when she was following me around the house (thinking I'd kill myself if left alone for even 30 seconds). I feel very gaslight, invalidated, and am, because of my anxiety, wondering if I'm somehow just crazy and a horrible person for saying all of these, according to my aunt, lies and hateful comments. I feel so abandoned, ashamed, and worthless. I don't know what to do. Please help me, if you're willing.

So in Mexico right now, the president decided to vaccinate medical doctors in the public sector first but leave medical doctors in the private sector get their shots along with the rest of the public, by age thresholds. An editor had to write a piece in response to this mess titled In Defense of Profit”. Reality is now The Onion.

I feel like a better response to that situation is to argue that like it or not, the private sector comprises a big part of the market and it's against the public good to withhold vaccines from healthcare providers.

Sure, if you want to be pragmatic and appeal to people’s self-interest, but this is part of a recurring theme he continually repeats, attempting to delegitimize anything that isn’t owned and operated by the government. Did you know he’s lambasted renewable energy, specifically wind farms, solely because they are owned and operated by private business? In response he proposed a bill and later a constitutional amendment to expropriate most ownership of the energy sector, arguing “energy autonomy” and doubling down on coal and petroleum. He insinuated that wind farms are peddled by private oil as a ruse to trick the public, or whatever. He’s insane, but I do think at this moment people do need to a hear a deeper defense of the private sector—which I can’t believe I’m saying. It’s why I said reality is now a parody news site.

Brenden basically ignored me on a phone call and pretended to fall asleep, all so he could fucking go have sex with René for the FOURTH time today!!?!!?! Seriously??? I'm not even worth being told "goodbye," or some other such nicety? And I don't appreciate the implied supposition that having sex for the fourth time in one day is better than talking to me. :flame: :flame: :flame:

This was a big misunderstanding. Brenden actually genuinely dozed off on the couch, I told Nick through the phone, then he hung up. At some point Brenden woke up, did his usual "Huh, what's going on?", I clarified that it was okay, he'd just fallen asleep, I'd informed Nick and he'd hung up, and now I had to coax him into bed. This was made easier by the fact that he had a boner and was (very unusually) interested in having sex again rather than going straight back to sleep in bed.

I don't think there can be any question that talking with Nick is one of Brenden's favourite activities, considering how much of his day is spent thus. We must allow him some small (and not so small) other pleasures. :3

Which of the two is correct, "spent thus" or "spent thusly?"

My NHS app has pinged me with a lovely self-isolation instruction. That’s me locked indoors, living on takeaways because I haven’t been shopping and I’m now not allowed to go shopping, until the 23rd :pfft:
