It does make sense to me. Free sexual expression was once tied to gay rights in way that's just not relevant anymore. These youngsters who never once contracted HPV after sucking off a stranger in an unlit public park don't know how liberating it feels to wear your fetish gear in the light of day.

Well, they are prudish these days. Most of them can't rally the courage to have sex, unless they are dressed as the family pet.

Catastrophic technical issues at work that made it pretty much almost impossible to actually do most aspects of my job, compounded by a tech department who's idea of "updates" about fixing the problem is to wait for you to phone them and then say "we're looking into it, we'll call to let you know what's happening" and then not getting back to you for like 5 fucking hours.

Your IT guys must be the same as ours.

You think it's all one poor guy in a tiny office someplace?

We have ancient legacy pc's that I think we're around at the time of Xerox. They recently thought it would be a grand idea to update them all to Windows 10.... :facepalm2: They struggled to run prior to the update. Now it's abyssmal. One of the computers literally caught fire (smoke bellowed out the back as it died an ignoble death)

When we explain they aren't upto it, the people on the other end of the phone, assure us, that, the computers we have meet the required specs and should be fine...

Perhaps so, but these are pc's that have been running for the better part of 20 years, used by people who, largely, struggle to operate a toaster!

But noooooo. What do we know? We only use the damn things everyday, usually accompanied by colourful expletives.

Day 2 of tech issues.

Some issues resolved, major problem continuing to drag on. At approximately 26 hours since the problem first began our tech department finally dialled into our till system remotely to actually look at what the problem we're experiencing is. And then went radio silent again.

God only knows what the fuck I'm going to have waiting for me when I go back in tomorrow morning.

It's possible. The company subcontracts with pretty much everything else.

And these are the obligatory, lowest bidder subcontractors, meaning, they do the bare minimum they can get away with and not lose the contract.

At least you get someone in the same country as you. All of my IT woes now go through South Africa, and I always seem to get the same person, a nice but incompetent man named Thabo.

There are is one other person in the company with my name. He works in the Spartanburg plant. Every time I phone Thabo, he confuses me for the American. He goes into the American’s account, decides that someone has clearly entered my username wrong, deletes his username from his account and types mine in. And then for the rest of the day, my VPN switches to America and I can’t get into any European applications. I have to email him and his line manager to apologise and then call IT again and explain to Thabo, for the fifth time, that his account is not my account and the problem is not a mistyped username.

 oh that's brilliant.

Poor Thabo. Everytime he probably puts the phone down thinking he has solved you problem and earned his pay, a fine days work. But no. Or maybe it's just a game now. Maybe he really hates American Joe? He knows what he is doing. He knows and it feels good. :P

How was the celebration of the illustrious day of your birth BTW?

Day 3 of this bullshit. :madred:

So I work in a betting shop, as I've mentioned. To correctly put customers' bets into our system our tills connect to a central server in-shop, which then connects to a larger server remotely which sends all the data on race times, results, prices and anything else we need, to all the shops at once.

The problem in my shop is our server died on its arse. As a result of this we have half of Sunday's racing still stuck now on our till system as if it hasn't happened yet. Of the approximately 21 races that ran on Sunday, we have results for maybe 8 of them. We're getting today's stuff through fine, Sunday's just isn't going away.

A feature of our tills is when the server dies, we can put our tills into something called 'standalone mode' which means we can take bets but that's all we can do. We can't translate them, can't even look at them, after they're placed. When you go from standalone mode back to the full till system mode, the till is meant to load those bets taken in standalone back in so we can then process them properly. This is what didn't happen to 44 bets on Sunday. The bets exist, the customers have the tickets for them. Our till system just refuses to acknowledge they exist. We can't even see what people have bet on. Nothing.

Today I spent half a fucking hour on the phone with a lovely lady called Rose, in our company's tech support/database department. She logged into my till remotely and mucked about in some files, then we both waited as the till loaded and she was claiming that now all the Sunday bets would load in. The till takes ages to load, and when it does... nothing. They're not there.

She sounds confused and says that our best bet is to wait until a customer brings on in to see what our till does when it's scanned, and if we can to manually work out the payout and just pay them as normal. I ask her how we can do this when we're missing over half of the results from that day, with no way of knowing exactly what prices our company was offering on any given race.

Her response? "Oh I don't know what you'd do about that" and promptly hangs up on me.

Fuck :flame: This :flame: Place!

So we have 44 bets floating around out in the world, we have no idea how many of them have winnings to return, and of those we have no idea how much those winnings are. Which isn't ideal when your entire job's priority 1 is always making sure the money in shop is right. Both tills are showing massive cash differences because they took money for bets on Sunday but the system doesn't know how much money they took. I think when I left today the main till was reading as £270 over what the till thinks is there but I have no idea if that's what was taken in stake money on Sunday because we can't see any of the fucking things.

Luckily I have 2 days off now to not have to worry about it, I'm just hoping when I come back on Friday it's resolved either properly, or the staff working the next 2 days have just manually worked out and paid out all the offending bets in question so we can move past this and just get back to normal.
