It’ll be fine. The National Guard will come and resolve this quintessential American problem - citizens attempting to overthrow the Government that they insist is tyrannical - in the most quintessentially American way: automatic weapons fire.

Refreshingly, they’re all pro-trump. So the victims will be mostly white. Which will be a refreshing change of pace for those of us in the international spectatorship.

It’s early days yet. There’s plenty of time for one of the great architectural icons of the modern world to catch fire. That’ll change some minds.

Oh they’ll have that done in no time. If there’s one thing I have every faith in America to do quickly and efficiently, it’s sweep a building for explosives. There’s already a plan, everyone involved in the sweep has probably been training for the sweep for 10 years. There is a team of 540 German Shepherds bred and trained specifically to sweep the capitol building, each having lived its entire life in a 1-1 recreation of a room in the capitol building, complete with photographs of the correct view from the window and old clothes of the relevant sitting congressperson for smell accuracy. They’re all being flown in from a secret facility in Nevada as we speak on a flying armada of Blackhawk Helicopters made of freedom. Literally. The concept of freedom, made manifest and forged into helicopter parts by the sheer strength of patriotism held by the heroes at Northrop Grumman. This is exactly why America spends billions upon hundreds of billions of dollars on defence. So that when something seemingly unthinkable happens, a fuckton of suitably trained, camouflage wearing patriots can be despatched immediately. George W. Bush is being called at home right now. A secret piece of legislation nobody knows about has now gone live and George W. Bush is now the War President of the United States. His enemy? Hardline republicans.

Some Republicans will still object to Georgia, Pennsylvania, and probably Michigan. Each objection results in 2 hours of debate in both chambers.

And the sad thing is someone like Hawley comes out of this looking like a piece of shit, but a piece of shit that is more popular than ever with Trump's base and his name recognition gone up x10000. He probably sees that as a success.

Who knows what 2024 will look like, but Pence won't be Trump's man (assuming Trump himself doesn't run in 2024...) or getting any endorsement from Trump going forward after today. Hawley and Cruz will be remembered as the two that stood by Trump, which is what they clearly want from this. It's actually impressive that after everything that happened in the afternoon they're still sticking by their actions. But saying that, the ones that have changed their mind on the ratification of the votes are potentially worse. Because the riots today didn't change anything in terms of the ratification of the votes - if they genuinely were arguing the November elections in their state were not fair, why would anything today change that? Because they just realised that, standing by Trump, lying, and being shitheads probably isn't a good move - but changing their position is basically an admittance it was always about them, not actually the election.
