And that makes me sad.

They don't automatically give you the following Monday off as a substitute holiday? That's how it works here.

For example, in 2021, Christmas and Boxing Day will fall on a Saturday and Sunday, so Monday and Tuesday the 27th and 28th of December will be public holidays to make up for that.

Nope. I am pretty sure this stopped being a thing here with the fall of Yugoslavia.
And apparently "business owners" are very happy about the situation this year.

The first usable holiday this year is April 13th - Easter monday.

In Scotland, it was the 1st of January, followed by the 2nd of January.

Well yes 1st and 2nd are also holidays here. I just count them with the previous year for some reason  . I took the 3rd off as well (a lot of people did as well).

One of the many benefits of being self-employed is that I rarely refuse my request for a "well-being" day off.

Um, I'm not self-employed. Do I seem to have any issues giving myself a "well-being" day off?

No, you definitely don't. To be perfectly honest, I take a month or more off at a time. It does wonders. This time of year I respond to emails, do a little new product research, and post to social media occasionally — all in my pajamas from anywhere with wifi.

One can have a lot of days off, if one happens to be self unemployed ( some call it arts, too ) , and one leg can't be used very well. Although it's not that pleasant in ways, that life at sick bay.

Pajamas. WiFi ... ah, that dude:

Tonight my family was told there is not much the doctors can do for my grandma. Chemotherapy may slow down the cancer but that’s about it.

Having a rough time lately.

Grocery shopping was not done, because I decided to be a lazy little pinhead. Nothing besides what was absolutely required for the work week was on my ‘weekend.’

PayPal is trying to get me to donate money to "help Australian communities rebuild". Australia is one of the wealthiest countries in the world, with possibly the most resilient economy in the world. The idea that it needs humanitarian foreign aid seems pretty silly. It's being treated like it's Haiti in some ways.

Aww. What age has she reached? Is she going to take the chemotherapy? It'd be understandable if she wouldn't want to go through that...

Maybe there are clinical trials she could take part in for medicines that might work better and provide data to help give future patients a better chance?

My dad has been going through this lately. But he's a bit further along. He was getting treated with a chemotherapy pump. But the grant that was paying for it ended with the new year.
So basically hes fully out of options. They did a catscan on Tuesday and if it was helping at all theres a hospital in Philly that may take him for trials. But were waiting on the results from that.

It sucks a lot man. Just try and stay positive.
