GAS AT $3.70 A GAL. for premium.

Ohio just passed an additional 10.5 cent gas tax.

It’ll be ok, it’s not like you’re spending money on clothes.

Lol, that's nothing. I pay about 6.4$ per gallon. Granted I always go for the 100 octane version instead of the more standard 95 (though there isn't that much difference in price).

What are you building?

My new desktop. They finally developed a mainstream processor that seems like a real upgrade from the one I bought 5 years ago :D

Them being AMD and it being the 12-core Ryzen 9 3900X. It will be mine until I can get the 16-core 3950X due for release in September, at which point this will become Brenden's. (Brenden is still using a motherboard and processor from shortly after we moved to the UK in 2010, so he's kind of due for an upgrade too :P)

They're a bit pricey, but I figure they'll last us like 10 years (or retain the equivalent thereof in resale value) so that the cost of owning them will average out to just about £4 and £6/month respectively, which should definitely be worth it for the performance increase since we use them all the time.

Well, it certainly lives up to expectations. This is the first time I've seen Thunderbird handle massive IMAP accounts without grinding to a halt, or been able to restore a few hundred Chrome tabs in a few seconds without anything slowing down, or been able to use a VM without being annoyed by how laggy it is. :awesome:

I suppose the 16-core would be overkill.

Gotta get a new hammer for work. The one i had seems to have "disappeared". I found someone else's but it's a piece of shit.

Its annoying buying hammers and tape measures every few months. A good one can easily run $50. Same with tape measures. And good 1 can go for about $1 a foot. So a 25 foot tape runs about $25-$30. :facepalm2:

Good for Ohio.

Electric cars are getting more common and I think that Ohio added the additional tax to make up for the money that they are losing from people converting from gas to electric.

Virtuous circle.

Ideally, the tax should be levied on the carbon at source rather than end use, and everyone should get a dividend to offset the burden on end users while retaining the price disincentive.

Ideally, social security would also fund itself.

Payroll taxes do cover Social Security and the trust funds contain more than $2 trillion. The Federal Government further owes over $5 trillion which it has taken from the system for non-SS use (something that ought never to have happened).

Iamjava wrote:Or, rather, electric (et al) cars will become increasingly viable and people will choose the alternatives. The government would have little involvement.

A carbon tax is the best market-based solution to the problem. Other solutions involve (much) more government involvement. You should look at the link I provided. The letter was even signed by Alan Greenspan FFS.

I agree with your parents. I mean, not that straight people are any better. Crocs with socks are far worse offenders.

I dunno, I’d wear those. I think the notion that pink is a colour that men can’t wear without being judged unfavourably is well and truly outdated in 2019.
