What's the last thing you bought?

The last thing I bought was a new pair of jeans.

Every time I bought a “special snowflake” laptop (asus taichi for example) it stopped performing like it should because the manufacturer (asus and lenovo) couldn’t be arsed to update the drivers for said special snowflake features.
How would it stop performing? Windows just detects the second screen like an external monitor. I could be running Linux and it wouldn't matter.
Also, I just had a look at that Taichi thing (I hadn't heard of it before) and that seems much more like a gimmick, whereas this is Asus' top-of-the-line flagship laptop for professionals and content creators. And as someone who works with large amounts of text, it really is amazing. This is easily the nicest computer I've ever worked on in my life.

I mean Taichi was aimed at the more professional business users as well. And it was similarly priced too. At least the top spec model that I have. And likewise the second monitor is detected as just that - a second monitor. But the thing is supposed to switch between monitors when you close the laptop - it barely does that. The shortcut button for manually switching usually doesn’t work, ... Screen mirroring is only possible if you go to display settings and enable it manually.
Also... touchpad stops working quite often after a windows update. Or it did. I stole a driver from a similar zenbook (which is supported by windows 10) and it works just fine.
Apparently installing linux is quite impossible on it as well - the dual monitor setup causes major issues apparently. Never tried it though - just something that people commented on when I was still thinking about it.

Re: What's the last thing you bought?
Is the Taichi you're talking about the one that came with a U-series i5/i7, 4 GB RAM, 128 GB SATA SSD, integrated graphics only, Full HD screens?
This ZenBook Pro Duo's top-specced model has an i9-9980HK (the fastest non-Xeon laptop processor in the world), 32 GB RAM, 1 TB NVMe SSD, RTX 2060 dedicated graphics, 4K screens, cost about €3500 at launch. I'd like to think they'll take this one a bit more seriously
Anyway, in a worst-case scenario I'll just reset it to factory conditions, sell it and buy the next iteration with the same design, since for me, it doesn't get any better than this.

New driver's license. Less exciting now than it probably was when I got my first license...
Although at least the DMV clerk was a cute guy.

I thought the driver's license was supposed to be earned by passing an exam, not bought.

You’re rewarding them with your money after that disaster of a final season‽

I passed all the needed tests a long time ago. This was just a routine renewal--the only thing they routinely test at renewal time in my state is eyesight.

Mine is the i7 13” model (there is also a smaller one out there), but yes. Have you checked how old it is? It’s not exactly a last years model.
Also... it was never meant as a high performance machine. It was an ultrabook. And quite a powerful one at that. I think it was about 1700€ when it came out with my configuration - although I luckily bought it much later as an open boxed product and it was reasonably priced.
But... Basically when Windows 8.1 came out they pretty much gave up support - it took them forever to update the drivers. With windows 10 they just decided to say fuck it and never did officially support it.

Re: What's the last thing you bought?
Just won an eBay auction for a Nintendo Switch and 7 games along with a nice carrying case and a 128 GB microSD card. The total new value of the lot was over £500 I estimate and I sniped it for £365. I'm probably going to sell 4 of the 7 games for £120 total, so I basically got a Switch and 3 games I want for £245.

Re: What's the last thing you bought?
99 cent thrift store clearance day strikes again... This time, I made a switch from shirts to a fitted sheet for the bed.
It doesn't match any top sheet I have, and I'm now wondering if this scenario might take place. One night, I invite a guy to, ah, spend the night. He sees the bed, and immediately leaves, because any guy with mismatching sheets can't possibly be a Real Gay Guy.
At least it should fit the mattress, it is 100% cotton, and did I mention that it was only 99 cents?
