When straight fools say "That's so gay".

Talk about anything and everything.

If you want to go around mad and upset about every little thing, then life is not going to be that great.

Is this mostly a US thing? I'm not sure I heard many people use "gay" for "stupid", "bad", etc when I was in school (U.K). I mean, it was definitely used as an insult, as in "look at him, he's reading! He must be gay!", or "look, he's wearing a colour other than black or white! He must be gay!", or, perhaps the strangest of all, "look, he's hanging out with a girl! He's definitely gay!".

Lots of things were "gay", but the word was utilised to punish people who didn't conform to the bizarre masculine ideal of 14 year old children, rather than as synonymous with "stupid". I'd assume that this is, mercifully, quite a bit less prevalent today, but I dunno, since I'm not a sinister weirdo who hangs around with teenagers.

But yeah, if people are still using the word "gay" when they mean "stupid", as OP claims, then they are indeed very silly and should be subjected to serious eye rolling.

In the U.S. "gay" has acquired a slang meaning of stupid or of inferior quality. Yeah, I understand the usual homophobia where gay meant sissified or cocksucker. But they've given it a whole new meaning which has nothing to do with being homosexual. And adults are using it now. It's idiotic. If white people were using "black" as an insult they'd be called racists.

The 'k' was a joke. I'm an American nationalist and proud of it. Point is, I'm gay. They better respect that. "Gay" does not mean lame or stupid. Again, if fools were using "black" to mean inferior, black people wold beat the shit out of them. Gay people need to stop being doormats.

God, you're right. I shall have to burn my union card, and all of my Marx. :(

I shall renounce socialism, that empty creed. Today is the day that I become a truly political being.

I'm american and I'd say your overly bent about it. Who are being doormats, when or where? You always seem to want to see the hate and immediately fight over it. So yes, you come off as confrontational and worse. Crap as someone else pointed out gay has become a novelty of sorts. And part of that is that we ourselves have become that novelty as well LoL. My suggestion - just enjoy life a bit more and be less of the "I want to fight everyone" attitude.

Caring about the usage of a pejorative term is a waste of time. Honestly, that mentality is shared by the people who ask for the manager at a grocery store. Live and let live. Life is too short to be worrying about this crap lol

Frankly I'm not about to slit my wrists over it. I like you grew up in this heterosexist behemoth, and I've become quite ho-hum about it. It's an interesting topic for conversation on a gay message board. What astounds me is that so many of the guys here seemed to be more upset that I brought it up than that straight fools see our identity as "lame and stupid". We need to be aware. That's all.

What I see in some of the guys here is like a queer version of the "dumb blonde syndrome". They're all about sex and clothes and partying. But don't say anything which might hurt their little brains.

It's like walking and chewing bubble gum. One can be positive and still be aware of the negative.

It like obsessing about the negatives, driving yourself into a rage, until you get yourself involved in trouble... Look for fight and you find fights easily.

It can also be a smug feeling of superiority when I look at the lowly breeders.
