Why do many people associate the service in the navy with gays and homosexuality?

At least in Poland some saying that Polish Navy it's gayest off all, some saying that this trope come from West and more specifically from America and that song :D

I wonder does for example irl US NAVY and RN are more LGBQ friendly than other? :D

It’s the uniforms and the being stuck in close quarters with exclusively other men, at least once upon a time. Front line infantry are a great many things, but witty they are not. The army calls you gay enough, soon everyone starts calling you gay.

Though more recently, the gay shade has fallen on the Marines or so I've read.
