Worried Mum
Hi everyone I dont know if anyone is able to advise? I dont want to sound like one of those controlling mums. But I am a bit worried after tidying up my 18 year olds son desk this morning and finding 3 boxes of Emtricitabine/Tenofovir disoproxol Lupin unopened. On reading the leaflet it says they are to treat HIV infection in adults.
As you can appreciate I was shocked. I do not want to embarrass him by asking why he has got them.
Can I please ask why would he be given these is it for prevention of HIV? Would it be his Dr that would presecribe them.
Not quite sure how to approach the subject with him?
A very worried mum. Your help and advice in this matter would be gratefully appreciated thank you.

Hi, great question. I'm barely older than eighteen myself, but I'd say that since your son is eighteen, and hence of the age of majority, the topic isn't any of your business; his health, as an adult, is really only his business, provided your not still paying for his doctor visits or some such thing. I don't know if this is an opinion anyone else will agree with, so maybe the others will be able to offer better advice.

Your son is taking preventative HIV medication as part of a sexual health prescription.
He’s fine. He’s being responsible. You don’t need a conversation with him.
