Hello forum peeps

Unread postby Crisis_Jay » 2 December 2018, 14:17

I made a post in general last night, so here's the newbie questionnaire:

Nickname(s)?: Jay
Age: 44
Orientation: Gay
Where you live: Rural Maryland
Where you're from: Same place
What you do (job, schooling, etc.): I buy stuff for a company
Dream Job: Marine biologist
Religion (or lack thereof): Agnostic I think
Political philosophy: I don't like politics, especially after the last election divided my family
Interests and hobbies: Cooking, hiking, animals, traveling, brainstorming ways to become self-employed, occasional video game
Drinking, drugs or sobriety?: Sober for almost 4 years, may drink socially again if I find a social life
Special talents: I can name all 50 states in alphabetical order in less than 15 seconds (Oooo)
Pet peeves: Noisy eaters, people who don't stop talking so you can get a word in or leave. lol
Personal hero: Trump (just kidding, I don't have a hero)
Favourite real-life homosexual: Ellen
Favourite movies: Avengers, Star Wars original trilogy, Alien trilogy, Forrest Gump
Favourite TV shows: 90's sitcoms mostly. Don't watch much TV anymore
Favourite music: Classic-modern rock, some metal
Favourite books: Dr. Seuss
Favourite food: Homemade lasagna
A quote to live by: What is best in life? To crush your enemies, to see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of their women. :P

I came here mainly to share and hear experiences others can relate to. And maybe to learn some things. There's really no one in my life I can talk to about what's going on; my parents are complete homophobes as are most people I know living in the boonies. I feel like I only have a few good years left and my biological clock is about to explode.

Anyway, look forward to meeting some good people.

Welcome, Jay! I really like your introduction. :)

When you said "Rural America", I thought about something more uhhhh... "rednecky" than Maryland. I thought it was quite progressive up there! How beautiful is the winter?

I would almost feel sorry for asking you out for a beer after 4 years sober. Almost.

Trust me, there are parts of Maryland and neighboring Delaware that are extremely rednecky. Hunters, confederate flags, NASCAR praise Donald, etc. That's where I live. I imagine every state has its own boondocks that outsiders have no reason to visit, and they become more known for their metropolitan areas.

Winters are hit or miss. Sometimes we get a few nice snows, others just a dusting.

Dude, snow is like gold to a Brazilian. I went crazy the first time I saw it falling. After one Colorado winter I understood why some people call it white shit. But still, it's amazing! Our winters are just like, sorta cold. You can barely wear a scarf.

Hello Jay from rural Maryland.
Welcome to the forum.
I also live in the wilds of the Ozarks. It's an interesting place with lots of wonderful scenery and more than its fair share of challenges, people are, mostly willing to let me alone since I expressed a wish to not be bothered.
It's not that I don't like people, just that most people of their ilk will decide not to like me if they delve very deeply into my lifestyle - so a little arms length works. That's what fences are for.
I am a work in progress. I am so thankful for the opportunity to live my live my own way.

True, but it keeps the bible beaters out of your yard.

I won't admit to either ownership or proficiency with firearms. Well, okay I was in the Army so I might have some level of expertise. Fence plus proper signage provides a demarcation point - cross the line, the shooting might start.
