Hi, welcome!

What do you think of the new Star Trek Discovery? René and I have watched it; so far it's the only Star Trek show I've watched the whole of. I thought the second season was much better than the first.

Eek. Star Trek Discovery was made by people who don't know Star Trek for people who don't like Star Trek. You'll be hard pushed to find anyone who loves all of the 80s & 90s Star Trek series who thinks of Discovery as Star Trek. If they called it "Space fantasy", it wouldn't be so offensive, but it would still fail to make much sense. Unfortunately it poops all over everything that Star Trek stands for on so many levels.

As a huge fan of TNG, DS9 and VOY, I felt the exact same way in the beginning. Having pushed on though, Discovery seems to have gotten a lot better, to the point where I'm actually quite enjoying it. It now certainly qualifies way more as Star Trek than those abominable movies they've been making!

Maybe there's hope for me liking it one day then? I want to like it.. because I want a new star trek to watch. I tried to force myself to watch the first season but it was really hard going. I had to stop after that, it was just really not enjoyable for me. Even if it wasn't advertised as Star Trek, I'd struggle to watch it because I find the script cliche & doesn't generate any emotion for me, storylines have too many plot holes, and acting is so melodramatic I find it quite unconvincing. If they had picked a different actress for Michael Burnham then I might have been able to get through it but that actress is just too irritating to watch. She over-acts & comes across quite arrogant, and yet is only capable of portraying one or two emotions (in pain or sad)- with the same dramatic pained expression on her face at all times, no matter what emotion the script called for.

FYI the same actress acted almost exactly the same way in "The Walking Dead", and I was so relieved when her character died because she took away from the show. Yet then she got hired for Star Trek Discovery and acts exactly the same despite the fact it's meant to be a different character :3

Haha, I totally get how you feel, and it's not like all of that's totally better in season 2, but I definitely thought there was big enough improvement for it to be fun to watch and to get attached to some of the characters. :)
