I think most people around our age have some kinda nostalgia for incubus. I seen them in concert with an ex-girlfriend when I was probably 19-20.

God his first album was killer. There's not a dud on it. Shame he couldn't keep the momentum. I know he still makes music. But that first album is a classic to me.

I'm addicted to Depeche Mode at the mo. They claim this song is about capitalism :shifty:

I find the lead singer of Depeche Mode really hot (bottom), both then, and there's something about him even today... I probably would too :P

Why were straight men in the music industry in the 80s so much... gayer? Than we see today, despite society advancing? :shifty:

Okay so, not to derail the thread but, I had a similar thought cross my mind yesterday night when I saw several Tik Tok clips of straight guys. And it isn’t just the purposeful gay ones. A lot of presumably straight young guys feel the need to act not necessarily overtly faggy but somewhat effeminate, especially when they pose. This was true with musical.ly too, back when it was more popular. But yeah, 80s straight men not only looked gay but also seemed to approve of gay icons...so long as they didn’t announce they were gay. My dad said there used to be this fad where all the guys had some sort of mini man purse that in Mexico they called “mariconera” which can’t really have a literal translation but something like queericle. So I’m guessing they were all fully aware but didn’t care...despite rampant homophobia? I don’t get it.

Yeah.

Seemingly every male in the 80s that was massive was gay and quite effeminate or "out there" (wearing makeup, women's clothing, etc). David Bowie, George Michael, Elton John, Boy George, Michael Jackson, Freddie Mercury, Pet Shop Boys... but you're right, a lot of them didn't come out until the 90s or no one is still quite sure what their sexuality actually was (Michael Jackson and Bowie especially)

And yeah - even if they weren't gay, straight men were still really promiscuous. Look at Prince! Or Mick Jagger.

It's a shame IMO. The mainstream males of today like Shawn Mendes, Ed Sheeran, Timberlake, Charlie Puth...fair enough, I'm sure they're being themselves. But they don't seem half as expressive as those guys in the 80s. Maybe its record companies and the pressure to play it safe, I dunno. But who is there today? Troye Sivan? Or Sam Smith o_o

Here is Mick Jagger and Bowie and they were somehow convincing people they were straight at the time.

Could you imagine Bieber and Shawn Mendes doing a video like that? It'd never happen haha.

Seen a few videos on YouTube discussing those two apps lately (not recent uploads) but from what I can gather it is totally full of fuck bois totally posing and showing off how good they look, ugly guys need not apply on those apps although most seem underage anyway.

You think of the likes of Queen and all that back in the 80s but right now there is nothing, the only particular acts that do so now are actually LGBT themselves the band Years & Years being a good example especially with their lead singer unsure about the others in there, anyone who doesn't fit into that category would likely have the piss ripped out of them or would be considered to be homophobic by acting in a way that is a gay stereotype.
