I wasn't aware of the aria's history under different composers. How fascinating! Thanks for sharing this!
Have you ever listened to Nathalie Stutzmann's performance of the Handel version? I find it vastly more beautiful than some of the countertenor performances. But that, I suppose, is a mere matter of personal preference. Even so, I must admit I rather find everything she sings is simply heavenly!

She gives Bartoli a run for her money. It's strange hearing it sung that low, but it's equally emotive.
