Where is it being held? Hopefully Japan... if it's the US, we won't hear about it in Europe until much later in the day :|

Ah, okay then, that sounds like the right sort of time difference. Still...have to wait the whole day. Here's hoping it's worth it :awesome:

So, that was a let down. For me at least...maybe I'm not enough of a technical head to appreciate all that. :|

I was expecting it to be more focused on the ps4, rather than the games. The games looked nothing special (from what i could see)

I thought Watch Dogs looked impressive, both graphically and as a game (very Assassins Creed, but then it was Ubisoft) but then I found out it was running off a PC :P Graphically, I could see a slight edge on the PS3's current capabilities, and thinking back to the launch titles of the PS3 they have come a long way since... I'm sure that PS4 graphics will similarly advance, and they showed promising signs with the realistic faces and things.

I just think it's customary to show the product you're urging people to buy within the year, after hyping it up to such a massive audience all week (with European audiences having to watch it at a very late hour too). There was a great irony to the fact that they pushed the concept of removing loading times on the console, but we have to wait longer to actually see it, having just waited two hours to get only a controller that was leaked this week, and a logo that is a recreation of the PS3 logo

Also ironic that they flogged the 'Everything, Everywhere' idea, but they didn't really show much new content and they used American terminology for their release date, as I doubt Europe or Australia will see the console before 2014.

The most hilarious thing is that there was a big giant event to unveil the PS4 in which we didn't actually see the PS4.

We saw an EB knockoff controller and a bootleg Kinect.

And the vaguest Final Fantasy announcement ever.

Totally not buying a PS4 until the backwards compatibility thing gets sorted out.

It is sorted out. As in, natively, it's not happening at all.

The plan is that titles for PS1, PS2 and PS3 will be available via the Gaikai streaming tech. So you'll be playing a video of an emulator running an old system. Instead of running said old games on what is essentially a PC several times more powerful than all those older systems combined.
There may be some sort of deal where Sony will graciously bestow upon you the rights to play games you already own by providing serial numbers or exchanging it at a GameStop or something. But that's just rumors. Probably you'll have to buy your shit all over again.

And no, your PSN purchases will not be transferrable to your PS4 account.

Yes, this is stupid.

Judging by the fact they re-released a selection of the PS2 and PS1 games on the PS Store and charged for all of them, regardless of whether they had had any alterations, it seems highly likely they're going to just charge yet again for them...it's daylight robbery as far as I'm concerned, particularly as home broadband for most people here struggles to run the current line of consoles effectively. PS1 and PS2 is excusable to some extent, as we've gotten over the general lack of backwards compatability with the PS3. Doing the same thing yet again is, frankly, taking the piss and they've really missed a trick by not utilising their 19 year catalogue of games... it's an edge neither competitor would have had.

Oh well, at least I can instantly share pointless videos of me waving a magic wand :facepalm2:

So it looks like the next Assassins Creed may have leaked...

[Reveal] Spoiler:
Subtitled "Black Flag"
May be Assassins Creed 4, or a second chapter in the AC3 timeline
Pirates! :awesome:
...presumably the Naval missions will return more centre stage
Already rumours about the characters/settings...I've heard the assassin may be Haytham Kenway's father, I've heard the East India Trading Company may serve as the Templar's, and I've heard that either the Caribbean or India are the most likely destinations for the game

Bought the new Indie Royale bundle just now. Kung Fu Strike looked great. Guns of Icarus Online is just an extra bonus after that.
Only paid $8.

Why don't we all boycott this generation? Console gaming is fast becoming one of the most consumer-unfriendly industries around.

Because console piracy is harder. And because of the limited sets of hardware that make development easier. And therefore the big developers are more likely to invest in console gaming because it will make them more money. PC versions become shitty afterthoughts.

As much as I love the indie world, there are a lot of superhuge games I really want to play that I know are only going to happen on consoles. And that sucks.

But the console-makers are waging an all-out war on consumers: used games not allowed, old purchases defunct, third-party peripherals prevented.

You can't expect drug dealers to change their ways if you keep buying their crack, David.
