Nice! I'd be especially interested in his insight into Louis XIV.
They're well worth a read, and Madame de Sevigne's writings if you're looking for other contemporary accounts of Louis XIV and general court life at Versailles.
I'm impressed. And I approve of your taste in authors, though I've not read any of Greene's books.

I'm reading the Remains of Archbishop Grindal - the Latin parts are proving a little too much for my exceedingly poor language skills.

Re: What are you reading right now?
Well I need to pull this thread from the dust since I am actually back into reading...
I've just finished reading True Letters from a Fictional Life ( https://www.amazon.com/True-Letters-Fic ... 0062380257 ) a minute ago. It falls straight into YA LGBT fiction category and it is great. These books are usually quite fun, but they usually start with a guy suddenly falling for a new kid at school and figuring that he is gay along the way, then coming out and steamy hot sex at the end. Or something similar.
And this is kind of true for this one as well. Except that in a way the whole story is a lot messier. Just like life. It's more about a guy getting comfortable with himself than romance. The whole coming out thing happens very gradually throughout the whole book and it isn't just a chapter or two, the characters are interestingly detailed and nuanced and I love how it's written in the first person. It really makes everything feel more personal.
I think there is a reason why I found this book on many lists of good LGBT books and I highly recommend it to everyone.

Frank Herbert's Dune Messiah
I'm actually listening to the audiobook. I've found there are lots of times when I'm not in a position to physically read a book/ebook while I can easily listen to an audiobook, so I get a lot more reading done now, if it can be called that.

Me Before You by Jojo Moyes.

It's a love story between a lifeless woman and a disabled man who lived his life to the fullest.

Re: What are you reading right now?
I am in the middle of reading Silent by Sara Alva:

https://www.amazon.com/Silent-Sara-Alva ... 055&sr=8-7
I can totally see why this book received a rainbow award. I am only half way through and I am already feeling all kinds of stuff. The story centers around a 15 (if I remember correctly) year old Latino boy named Alex. He is a nobody from a fucked up family. When some stuff with the family happens he gets a temporary placement at this group home where he meets this special needs kid that doesn't speak or do anything really. And this is where things start getting interesting. And I'll just leave it at that. But basically - not a white boy, not about a nerd or a jock, not about madly falling in love (at least not yet), not about coming out (not really), ... You can probably see that this is not your ordinary YA LGBT novel now. And it's freaking exciting to see what will happen next.
All I can say is this... I am looking forward to reading the next paragraph. You should probably check it out.

Re: What are you reading right now?
Finally finished reading Silent... Fuck... This book is so good.
It made me cry. A book made me cry. It also gave me quite a few boners. I was sad, I was happy and in the end I was almost high. I just couldn't put it down. I spent four hours just reading, barely wanting to get to the bathroom.
The second part of the book gets a lot more fast paced, with a lot more stuff going on. Stuff that you don't see in LGBT YA novels. Stuff that you don't see in novels at all.
I don't know how to say this - it's fucking awesome. It's so, so very fucking awesome. I am now thinking of actually getting the paperback just so I can put it on a shelf. And I'll probably read it again tomorrow.

Been skimming through passages from Harry Potter the last few days. Trying to re-familiarize myself with the fantasy genre to help me out when I sit down for my writing sessions.

Re: What are you reading right now?
I'm making my way through several books at the moment:
Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind by Yuval Noah Harari
Magicians of the Gods by Graham Hancock
12 Rules for Life by Jordan Peterson
How to Create a Mind by Ray Kurtzweil
The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins
And a few audiobooks:
Capital in the Twenty-First Century by Thomas Piketty
Understanding Power by Noam Chomsky
Ego is the Enemy by Ryan Holiday
Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell
I've recently finished (all audiobooks):
SPQR by Mary Beard
I Think You'll Find It's a Bit More Complicated Than That by Ben Goldacre
The Marshmallow Test by Walter Mischel (narrated by Alan Alda
)
One Summer by Bill Bryson
The Emperor of All Maladies by Siddhartha Mukherjee
Neurotribes: The Legacy of Autism and the Future of Neurodiversity by Steve Silberman
A Column of Fire by Ken Follett
My ADD brain gets bored with content easily, so I read / listen to things in parallel rather than serial, and I love audiobooks because I can listen to them on 1.5 speed, which is more like the pace of my thoughts and so my mind doesn't wander as much. I feel like my brain can't read text as fast as it thinks so that leaves a lot of margin to wander.

I love Terry Pratchett too! So many of his characters reminded me of people I've known or met, only amplified or exaggerated!
I do prefer his "middle" books, as he had established certain characters, and had a good structure of the world and it's places.
I found his later books, leaned quite heavily on satire about certain modern day institutions and ideas, in a less character focused fashion, but I don't know if that was due to his progressing alzheimers.
Still great books, but they lacked a tiny bit of something I loved in books like, Small Gods, Wiitches Abroad, Mort, Reaper man and the Nights Watch books.
But all in all, he was a prolific writer who really did flawed human characters well!
You got any favourites?
I have just started reading Call Me By Your Name, at the insistance of a friend and so far, I'm finding it so much better thant he film.

Firefall by Peter Watts
If anyone’s interested in near future first contact sci fi that somehow manages to be both grounded and fanciful then this book has your number.
Also all of the characters are neuro-atypical in some way.
