I played Age of Mythology on my computer for the first time in what feels like a lifetime!

Another free game I haven't played. I am so impatient when it comes to playing games. It has to capture my interest in 5 seconds or I'm done.

I got around to finishing Alien Isolation recently.

Played a couple of Early Access titles, including Colony Ship (an rpg, its hard) and Baldurs Gate 3 (it's Divinity Original Sin 3 in disguise)

Played Homeworld, the original for a few hours a couple of weeks back, for the nostalgia and started replaying the Legacy of Kain series, before I realised I hate the gameplay and only really came back for the dialogue and narrative, so I watched the cutscenes on YouTube, between games critique videos by Neverknowsbest and Noah Gervais.

I really would love to play that but I'm so terrible with horror games that it'll never happen.

OT: Re-downloaded and started mucking about in AO Tennis 2. Because I watched a bunch of the French Open this month and Wimbledon is next month so I find myself on a weird tennis obsession right now.

I finally bought a PS5. I am playing Assassin's Creed Valhalla on it. I can't wait to get Horizon Forbidden West.

I recently bought Ion Fury and Quake 2 on steam's sale. Only Powerslave and Redneck Rampage remain and I'll complete my collection of boomer shooters

I am eagerly awaiting the release of Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous. It's been ages since I was excited for a game and this, plus Terra Invicta are both getting me excited.

In the mean time, I'm playing a game called The Life and Suffering of Sir Brante. It's actually really good.

Humankind, the new 4X game from Amplitude Studios. Early days yet but first impressions are good and it's nice to play a historical 4X that isn't Civilization for a change. I love the Civ games but it's nice to have other options for that kind of game without having to play a fantasy or sci-fi variant like previous Amplitude games.

Humankind is on my wishlist. How does it compare to CIV? I hear you get alot more control over your faction.

The biggest difference from Civ is the evolving culture mechanic. In Civ you pick your empire and that's what you get, what it can do and what bonuses it gets never changes. Whereas in Humankind you pick a culture per era so it makes your empire more adaptable.

Like one of my first games I went with the Babylonians as my ancient culture for the science boost to get things rolling faster, but then found I wasn't expanding into unclaimed territory fast enough so when I got to the next culture choice I went with the Achaemenid Persians because they increase how easily you can claim territory and how many cities you can control without penalties.

Also I love that rather than just owning the tiles around your city centre and them slowly expanding outwards, when you build an outpost you claim all the territory within that area of the map, because the map's divided into regions. So you can't get completely boxed in by expansionist AI the same way you can in Civ.

Honestly I'm kind of digging it a lot right now but I've not really sunk my teeth into a full game of it because I haven't really had the time.

Also, no constantly-respawning barbarians is amazing. I hate them in Civ. Instead in Humankind you have wild animals you can hunt to get unit XP (some of which are peaceful, some of which actively attack you if they're stronger), and small independent tribes spring up with territory of their own, but they're not just constantly aggressive and sending waves of arseholes to bug you like barbarians are in Civ. They can do that, but sometimes they're peaceful and friendly so you can make alliances with them over time and eventually incorporate them into your empire's territory or pay them to take control of their units. It's much more free-form than Civ's "you must destroy all barbarians or they'll hassle you until the end of time" approach. Kind of a mix of Civ's barbarians and city-state mechanics at once.

Nice. And I feel you on the Barbarians in Civ. My exe and I would play hotseat together and they would bug the bejesus out of me. :argh:

I like the sound of regions and how that's implemented and it sounds not unlike a couple of fantasy based Civ-likes I played in the past. I think it will sit on the back burner for me for abit though.

I've already alotted my impending week off work to play Wrath of the Righteous when it comes out. Former plans got blown out of the water, but in this instance, I'm not too sad, as I get to sit around playing games like it was lockdown again. :applause: :D

I played Age of Empires III for a couple of hours yesterday. I haven't played it in a long, long time and so it was a bit of nostalgic experience for me.

I've been hearing for a while now that No Man's Sky is actually a good game now as opposed to the boring nothing it was when it first came out so I decided to give it a go. First impressions are.... mixed. It is demonstrably more interesting than the first time I tried it all those years ago, but it's still not exactly gripping me by the balls when the first hours of gameplay are spent hastily gathering minerals while having to constantly spend minerals to keep yourself from dying just by existing on the hellscape of a planet you inevitably start on.

The Engoodening of No Man's Sky

It's certainly impressive how much more there is to it than there was originally. I don't know, I still feel like it's just kind of... meh. Maybe it's just me, though. I often have this problem with very open world games; I can never get along with Minecraft either because when I'm allowed to do everything I just can't think of anything that I actually want to do.

I was tempted in to No Man's Sky because I heard they have base-building stuff in it and I kind of wanted to fuck about with that but at least in the early-going it always feels like it's going out of its way to funnel you towards the "story" and actively rebelling and pissing off to pootle about somewhere else just feels like so much effort when you have to spend ages trawling shit planets for building materials just to be able to maybe build something decent if and when you ever find a good one.

Building a huge elaborate base seems kind of empty and pointless when the game doesn't really give you any real reason to do it.

Currently playing No Mans Sky again, the new Frontiers update is pretty cool with the addition of settlements. Since it first came out I have phases of constant play and nothing for months or even a year.

It lags more now than it did before, I think I'm due a RAM upgrade soon.
