Civ V is the sweet spot in my opinion. I wasn't a fan of certain features in civ VI.

The graphics were slightly more cartoonist too.

The graphics in VI have grown on me over the years. I find them really easy to ‘read’ now, as is see an overview of what’s going on and everything. It all pops out well.

I prefer the graphics and style of Civ VI over Civ V and always have done. Also prefer the gameplay, too. Just a better game all around in my opinion.

If we're not bound to only one, then this is going to have to get a mention because it's one that I love so much:

That was the first and only computer game I ever got into. I found it at the same time I found GTF, while a lonely, closeted underclassman, and used it to fill hours on end at a desk I'd claimed down in the art library basement.

Sometimes I have a real urge to play again, but my old laptop could barely handle it, and my new one certainly can't.

...So you're telling me it's part of a series?

There are like 15 Civ games. I started with a spinoff called Call to Power I played endlessly when I was 9.

My favorite part of VI and one I think is very underrated is the soundtrack. I listen to it all the time even when I haven't played in a while.

I don't think I have ever agreed with you more. My Spotify 'liked songs' playlist contains quite a fair number of Civ VI themes.

Probably for the same reason many people are still playing NFS Underground 2, despite that it's too old - because it's better than the new editions. ;) The same ANALogy probably applies to Civ5.

Can't speak for Need for Speed but Civ VI is just better than Civ V.

Yeah, VI is better. Maybe V was better when VI first came out, but it's had two expansions and like two dozen content packs since then. Deeper gameplay, more variety, better music... arguably the art style is less appealing. I kind of hope they go for a gritty, realistic approach in VII.

I prefer the art style of VI to V. It's the thing that's most improved. I liked V, sure, but it just always looked murky and crap to me in terms of its visuals. VI is bright and clear and looks fantastic.

Took me a long time to get used to the gameplay and I still regularly fail completely at basic tasks in it but I enjoy dicking around with it more than I enjoyed V.

I will concede this might be the crux of my issue. I played CIV 6 around the time of release and it's become something of a reality, that Civ on release is pretty bare bones.

It may be that additional dlc and the like, have fleshed out gameplay. Thinking back, I didn't have much love for CIV 5 when that first came out and stuck with CIV 4 for ages. Once dlc arrived to address what I felt were shortcomings in CIV 5, I made the switch.

I probably haven't got round to doing the same again as when I get both the time and itch for CIV, i find it easier to just fire up 5  I don't often have the time for a marathon game that Civ deserves and I also play other grand strategy games too.

Did I mention the very primary colours of civ 6? :P

You mentioned call to power 1, what drew you to that? For me it was the box art.

I think it was my brother's. I mostly just remember the two tracks I liked and my weird fixation on the Chichen Itza wonder.

I remember Firaxis saying they went with the simple cartoony style for VI so that the gameplay elements didn't seem overwhelming. I kind of get it - there is a lot of crap to juggle.

To this day I still turn off the religious victory condition in VI because I just so cannot be arsed with trying to understand and juggle religion stuff on top of everything else.
