Ezra Klein’s thoughts age like fine milk.

I bet if he could he’d hold a big red wine glass behind Clinton all the time so he could capture and then savour the bouquet of her outgassing.

I feel like I can count the number of people who's takes on 2016 at the time the election was happening weren't instantly rendered utterly fucking worthless when America proved how stupid it is by electing Trump on one hand.

Sometimes I can't help but feel like a lot of people love to engage in revisionism about what generally popular consensus was at the time. Yes a lot of people called Clinton losing at the time but it feels like the 4 years since that election everyone's turned around and been "well obviously everyone knew Clinton was doomed from the start because of how uniquely terrible she was, to suggest she ever had a chance at all is just ridiculous and nobody could be that stupid."

But... I remember 2016. I was vividly obsessed with it to my own severe detriment. Most people whose job it is to pontificate about politics and make predictions about elections were all-in for saying she totally had it in the bag and that Trump was totally doomed.

Hindsight's a bitch, I guess.

I can't say I've ever looked at Vox content—though I'd note, in line with Severelius, that you listed plenty of mainstream outlets that got the 2016 election equally wrong, so I'm not sure I understand the particular animus against Klein.

All I can really say is that his podcasts are hour-long conversations with people who I think are usually worth listening to so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I mean for my money the only 2016 'take' that is still worth any sort of damn at all is "they're both crap in their own unique ways but in any sane society Trump still should not be able to win this because as bad as Clinton might be for whatever reasons most appeal to you, at least she's not a totally insane dribbling maniac with the mental reasoning ability of a toddler who's mother drank heavily while pregnant."

There’s a huge difference between getting it wrong and the way Klein completely fawns over her.

The idea of fawning over any politician fundamentally creepy as far as I'm concerned. It's like my repressed very British cynicism has utterly warped the way I engage with politics to the point where even liking a politician is a very rare thing for me.

The weird phenomenon of these pseudo-personality cults around political figures is bizarre and unsettling to me in general.

Ezra is such a bitch. Vocal supporter of the Iraq war and went on to be the second-most shameless Hillary shill.

If Ezra should be dragged for the views he held as a teen then you’ve got a lot of flagellation to do. A lot.

He started blogging in his 20s. I never blogged at all because I'm not raging sociopath.

Indeed. You just argued on a gay teen forum over the imperative morality of capitalism.

Oh and this gem from just three years ago:

Derek wrote:Whether people are entitled to subsistence is an emotional argument, on which I have no strong opinion.

I like to think I get points for not actively testing the sexual boundaries of 14-year-old bimbos.

I stand by it. I can't help being dead inside. It makes the slight inclination towards compassion I've cultivated all the braver.

Yeah well, I never claimed to be woke and better than a political blogger. I just use my minority privilege. Which reminds me. You’ve not once apologized for being white. What a “woke” charlatan you turned out to be. :oface:

Apologize and they just move the goalposts. First you have to apologize for being white, then for being male, then for being a filthy little pain piggy who deserves to have his balls stepped on and hot wax poured in his ass. Don't get me wrong, I support the impending socialist domocracy, but there's something to be said for playing hard-to-get.

Most people, myself included, don't really have much detailed knowledge on current affairs. Getting detailed knowledge is essentially a full time job. And anyway, greater levels of political knowledge almost never translate into a more "objective" view; it just makes you better at defending your position. :P

Exactly. ;)

I should be clear, that I'm a pretty huge critic of "algorithmic solutions" in places I feel they shouldn't be applied. It's just a great line to use ironically. :P
